I have been craving a bologna sandwich since the beginning of my pregnancy but I am holding off until after the baby is born. I have eaten one or two deli turkey sandwiches. I know that as soon as this baby pops out DF will be making me a bologna sandwich in a cheese bun with butter, mustard and lettuce..mmmmm
I've been eating sandwiches this whole pregnancy and haven't had any problems Like the other ladies said, it's a personal choice. There are so many concerns about the smallest dumbest things. If you are too concerned...just heat it up. There's always a chance for anything to happen during your pregnancy. If you want a sandwich...you probably wont stop thinking about it until you eat one! LOL
It is a personal choice but I was overly cautious and didn't eat any deli meats, because of the risk of listeria. The problem lies in non-dried deli meats such as bologna, roast beef and turkey breast. Dried and salted deli meats such as salami and pepperoni are OK. It is recommended to heat non-dried deli meats to steaming hot.
i ate plenty of tukey sandwiches while i was preg...i was scared as well but my ob told me that lunch meat is fine....ob didnt even seem concerned so i continued to eat sandwiches...i also decided to go with the prepackaged lunch meat instead of deli but my reason was because it was cheaper that way :)
I have been eating cold lunch meat my whole pregnancy. I actually did a report on listeria in culinary school. I know a little more than most about this foodbourne illness.
By heating your lunchmeat to at least 180degrees it will kill it. There are less than 100 cases in the united states every year. There is such a slim possibility of actually getting it. Make sure anything you are eating or drinking is pasturized.
Listeria is the only foodbourne illness that causes miscarriages because it actuay gets into your blood stream and crosses the placenta. It can take up to 4 weeks or longer to even know you have it. That's why pinpointing where it was contracted is so difficult.
I buy prepackaged lunch meat not out of the deli at the store. Deli meat has a higher chance because the package is opened and sliced right there and always a chance for cross contamination from one meat to the other being sliced.
This is defiantely a personal choice. They recommend you do not eat COLD lunch meat becuase of the bacteria it can carry. It is recommended that you heat lunch meat prior to eating it. Not all women go by this, some choose to continue eating cold lunch meat.
my dr. adviced me not too b/c of the chance of listeria, if you get sick you will m/c (sorry if that sounds harsh) i stayed away from it with my dd but seriously forgot the other day and had a roast beef the other day at subway.
With my last pregnancy i stuck to quiznos b/c you can get real pieces of chicken and its heated.
mmmm arbys!!!
there are alot of things my dr advised against, i think you just have to be smart and not go overboard!
I love the Arbys ones they are so good!
I always ate deli meat when I was pregnant. My weakness was salami sandwiches and the occasional turkey or ham.
If there is an arby's near you they do have REALLY good turkey and chicken sandwiches. Their farmfresh turkey with ranch is super yummy.
I agree with Shasy it MUST be heated before you eat it!! My High Risk OB informed me that deli meats carry a bacteria called listeria (this can be deadly to your baby) this is also found in hotdogs. Please make sure you thoroughly heat it up before you eat!
Just make sure you eat the kind with no nitrates, hormel makes a good turkey. I am pretty sure it is called Hormel all natural.
deli meats carry a bacteria that can be harmful to the baby...if you heat the turkey up to where it is steaming then you should be fine. But the turkey has to be hot...
you can eat i dont think there is anything wrong in it. why she is telling ?
