blighted ovum ?

I went in for my first Dr's apt last Wed for a transvaginal u/s to find out how far along I was I can't remember my last period. I think it was at the end of Nov 2009 (I think)
The Dr told me there was a sac but was empty, & offered a D&C the next day...I opted out & chose to pass it naturally, I had pregnancy symptoms all along, even after leaving my appt. He did do a pap & I spotted the next few days, a brownish color, & Saturday evening I started to have cramps that felt like a period & then was bleeding pink/red with some clots. & still am today (now monday) ... my question is does anyone know how long i will have a + pregnancy test?
Thanks,
~Stef

Hi there... I am sorry for your loss. :(  Everything you described is really common for a lot of women.  Last fall I went in for my doctors appointment and found out I was pregnant. I thought I was about 7 weeks the transvaginal u/s showed I was about 5 weeks. I thought that was very strange. I went back for another visit at 12 weeks. I was told the sac was empty and no heart beat could be detected. I was very confused because I was still having a lot of pregnancy symptoms. I was so nausciated I could hardly even make it to my appointment. My doctor told me that I was no longer pregnant but mz body didnt know this. So it was still producing all the hormones. That is why I still "felt" pregnant.  She offered a DnC that weekend. It was a hard decission but I said ok. I saw the empty sac on the U/s and I also heard no heartbeat. *At that time I was 12 weeks and the ultrasound was also showing me at 7) Something was wrong. I think that if your body hasn't figured out that you are no longer pregnant it may still produce the pregnancy hormones.  It shouldnt take very llong for your body to figure it out and go back to normal.

The HCG is out when there is nothing left of the pregnancy. Some woman their HCG goes down right away within a week or so and my sister did not pass the baby but it disolved in her and she still had some for 3 months afterwards. It was a long process for her. You need repeat blood tests weekly to make sure it is all gone before trying again. Sorry for your loss but I think you made the right decision to let it come naturally.

Hi im sorry for your loss, blighten ovums are so common, ive had multi mc,some last few days others weeks.a pregnancy test will stay positive until all the HCG is out of your system, when this happens, your body will then ovulate and your period will come,
your doctors may want to keep repeating your blood tests to make sure your level hhas gone done.
