Someone plz tell me how this works....

I've heard (and read) that many women get their 1st BFP as late as 8 weeks into their pregnancy (or by 1, 2 or 3 weeks after expected AF). I also know that HPT's pick up levels of HCG in the urine (sensitivity of test determines how much is needed to test + ) but what i DON'T understand is how a woman can be pregnant and be 2 weeks late on her cycle and only then (or later) test positive, even if her HCG levels are normal and high.

can anyone explain that to me? I'm quite positive that I just ovulated late (or not at all) and i'm not preggo.(i'm 4 to 6 days late) but I still wanna know how the above situation happens...

Quite frankly I had this happen to me with my son, and I still don't know how it happened. I didn't find out I was pregnant with my son until about 10.5 weeks. I was late the first month and took a hpt came out neg. Took another test a few days later and still neg. And I used different brands. Went to the dr and he had me do a urine test there and it still came out neg. He said to wait until the following month because I was only 17 at the time and the possibility of missing a period is common, especially with the things going on at the time. I took a few more tests between the time of going to the dr the first time and when af should have been due the following month. They all came out neg so I figured it really was just a missed period; that I didn't ovulate due to the stress. When my period should have been due the following month I still didn't get it, I waited a week before going to the dr cause I wasn't sure if it was right on schedule or not. A week after af was due I went to the dr, did a urine test and again neg. He sent me for blood work and there I was 10.5 weeks pregnant. Ultrasound 3 days later showed I was 11 weeks.

This time however I found out the day af was due. So why it happened last time and not this time, I don't know. I guess I don't have a story for you, just the experience. But I still wonder how it happens and why.
Sorry for this being so long!

I think usually when a woman doesnt test positive when she is expecting AF is probably because she ovulated later then she thought, therefore causing AF to be late as well.  If she ovlulated later, she wouldnt be as far along as she thought, which means the test will take longer to show up.  I am not a big believer in people that say they " never" tested postive and things like that.  Science is science....if there is hcg, it will show, whether through blood or urine.

It must have something to do with the way your body processes the hormones, because if you had a blood test it would show, but for some reason it doesn't show up in the urine
