Worried

How accurate are ultrasounds on determining the conception date at 17 weeks? How off can it be?

With a due date of August 5 her conception date could be between November 07, 2008 and November 13, 2008.  Though as others have said above its not exact and could be off by a week or two.

I think you will feel better and know 100% that this is your baby or not if you get the DNA test done.

umm she doesnt have to know i dont think. As long as you have the baby with you. Because all the need is the baby's DNA and yours..

well if worse comes to worse then when the baby is born take a DNA test. Ultra sounds are pretty accurate, but if the doctors gave you an estimate due date then count back from then it will take you to the time she aprox conceived and figure it out then.

Here's the thing. my girl left home around the end of november to the beinning of december. we found out she was pregnant in like march. we didnt know she was pregnant. she acted very weird about it like she didnt wanna keep it. her first ultra sound was on march 12 and it says she was 15 weeks along. i found out that she had been in fact talking to a guy while she was gone and with how she was acting it leds me to believe that it may not be mine. so i wanna make sure how accurate ultra sounds are cause i wanna be happy to be a dad but i also wanna make sure im not being played to be a fool. on a pregnancy calculator it puts the conception date at the end of octobor which would make it mine but if the ultrasound is off then it may not be.

worried daddy...don't forget pregnancy is counted from the first day of her last period and not when she conceived. most pregnancies are said to be 2 weeks longer than they actually are.

I agree with pookie, because that it was my doctor had said, that's why he needed to do two different ultrasounds in the begning of my pregnancy to make sure that my due dates were accuret and plauseable.

And the only thing that I say about her last peirod being off is the fact that my last period was Nov. 28th, 2008 and that would have ment I would be due around the 3rd of September, however, when looking at the baby and how he's growing they changed my due date to the 13th, which doesn't make much of a differeance, but it just goes to show u that they can be off, and they can be off until the baby is born and there is no way to 100% tell if he/she was born early or on time or late, because every baby is different.  And they all grow differently according to what their mother eats and how she takes care of herself.

Ultrasounds should only be used to determine the due date during the first 12 weeks.  Afterwards, they are not accurate for due date measurements

The only reason I could think of that her conception date would be off by that much would be she has her date for her last menstral period wrong.  Some women just don't track it as religiously as others.

Unlikely at this point that it would be an entire 4 weeks off.

with all my ultrasounds, with my last pregnancy they were all very accurate with the dates... My due date never changed until my son wanted to come a couple wks earlier at 38wks.. But spade22 is right. it could be a couple wks...
