i had strep b. i don't have it now. i had it with my 2nd and had an iv drip of antibiotics during labour. i had to stay in hospital with baby for 3 days while they monitored for signs of infection in the baby ( mostly temperature checks ). they tend not to let you bath baby till this 3 days is up ( which drives you potty when they've bits of blood from delivery on them). baby was fine. i was treated the same with my 3rd baby automatically, without screening. this time, i had to be screened due to a change in procedure in the uk and i don't have it. it's almost always not a worry group b strep...just a niggle in the back of your mind. some babies will die because of it but it is incredibly incredibly rare and almost unheard of when you've had antibiotic iv in labour.
I am so happy forthegoodnews! Strep B is nothing to worry about! Theonlydifferencebetween having it andnot is that when you are in labor you will have an antibiotic drip as well as an IV... I am glad to see good news andhope you have a great few more months!
Ohhhhhhhhhhhh!
Well in that case a huge PHEW!!!!!!
Sorry for my misunderstanding!
I believe every pregnant women is screened for Strep B and if you test positive, they will hook you up to antibiotics when you deliver. Not a big deal, really...
Glad the cyst is gone too!
Glad to here that the cyst has resolved.
Being a carrier of Step B means that you will need to have intravenous antibiotics during the labor/delivery process. Unfortunately Step B comes from a colony which means it can not be treated before L&D or else it will come back. It is vital you get antibiotics during the labor process because Step B can be passed on to baby and can result in extremely serious consequences, including death. If you receive the appropriate treatment the risk to baby is very, very minimal.
So glad to hear all is well with you and baby!! =) I don't have much info on Strep B though, sorry!
I should clarified...the cyst was on my baby's brain. they told me it was a marker for Trisomny 18 and so i went back for a followup ultrasound to ensure she is growing properly.
Every pregnant woman has a cyst when she ovulates. This cyst gives off progesterone (to sustain a pregnancy) in the event conception occurs. Sometimes the cysts can swell, cause pain, etc. So I'm glad to hear that what was bothering you is now GONE! Great news.
As for Strep B, not sure what that entails or how they treat it.
