Having a hard time getting pregnant

I have not had a period since April now, but I have taken 3 tests and all have come back negative. This has happened to me before, the doctor said that I wasn't ovulating and I would skip several months before having another period. He said the only thing he could do for me was give me medication to make me start but he couldn't guarantee that I would ovulate afterwards. That was fine when I was in college but now my husband and I would like to have a baby and I can't seem to ovulate. What can I do? Do I need to see a different doctor or is there something that I can do to help it?

Not sure what kind of doctor you are seeing, if it's just a GYN/OB.  You need to get a referral to a RE (reproductive endocrinolgist).  They specialize in helping you get pregnant and they will run some tests and be able to suggest options best suitable for you.

I was always irregular...and i thought the same thing, well my Dr. told me that with out having a cycle you dont ovulate. I learned that yes not all the time but you can. Thats how i got pregnant. The first day of of my LMP was Oct 29, 2007. I went in for my yearly check up February 20, 2008 (still no cycle & many BFN) to my suprise my Dr. said you know i think you are ovulating. She suggested to get my groove on for the next coming week one day & one day off and so on. I was like ok sure ill try but after trying for 6 years i really didnt believe it would happen. 2 weeks later getting ready to have a surgery i found out i was pregnant. My Dr. would at times jump start my cycle with Provera and then also prescribed Clomid. Oh i forgot to mention i do have PCOS. Though they didnt do all these check ups to see what was wrong till a year of trying to conceive. Not sure if they have the same rules but up here they dont think its a problem till you been trying for a year.
You can try another Dr. if it makes you feel better. Maybe that different Dr. will actually do test and see what exactly is wrong.
Good luck!

I have only been seeing an OB/GYN, I was thinking about seeing either a different doctor or a specialist. It hasn't been a full year of trying yet but I have had this problem for some time now. I had one doctor a few years back take some blood but never found anything.

You should see a specialist. They should do an internal ultra sound. Once they do that they might find different things. Example thick uterus lining (i think thats what they call it) if you dont have regular cycles that gets thick. They can check your ovaries to see if they are enlarged or if to see if you have cystical ovaries. If you dont ovulate your eggs dont mature and can just stay there and become little cyst (thats were PCOS comes in). They can see many things that blood test wont show.
I have had this problems for years, at first i thought it was the coolest. Hey 2 or 3 cycles a year i hit jack pot, but once you want to try for a family its not so cool.

There are some fertility medications that your regular OB/GYN should be able to give you.  I believe 1 of them is called Clomid.  Now don't quote me on this, but I believe that helps you to ovulate and many women on this site have gotten pregnant using it.  1 even ended up pregnant with twins.  I haven't had fertility problems, but an OB/GYN should have some basic knowledge about fertility and medications out there that can help.  If the basics don't work, then I'd go to a fertility doctor.  Even though I have never experienced this problem first hand, I have heard a lot of stories just from being on this site.  Maybe ask your doc about Clomid???
