TRYING TO CONCEIVE

We've been TTC for 5 mths. and 9 days and still nothing.  I saw a GYN doc. and she said I'm fine but sent my husband for a semen analysis.  She also did a blood test. Does anyone know a more accurate way of using the OVULATION kits?  I've been using them for 5 mths. So, if my LH shows up we're supposed to have intercourse in the subsequent days? Is that how it goes? or in 24-36 hours? It's a little confusing. Any other kits I can by to further pinpoint this crucial ovulation time?  Still hoping and TTC. Help.  Oh yeah, I just turned 41.

About that link- it seems a bit absolute. The luteal phase is not always "exactly 14 days." Mine is 10-12 and some are longer. Just wanted to put that out there so no one worries about that.

Hi Dee. I'm on my 5th month of trying too. Hope you get some baby dust blown your way!

I know that when you're older it may take longer, statistically. I use cervical mucous observation in order to determine ovulation. OPKs work with some people and not with others. When you have a surge I believe you're supposed to have sex within 24-48 hours.

With the CM (cervical mucous) monitoring, you have sex when you have really stretchy and crystal clear (like raw egg whites) cervical discharge. You'll notice it when you wipe.

Also, if your cycles are regular then you'll know a good prediction of when you may ovulate, which is 14 days BEFORE your period. This is called the luteal phase (time between ovulation and period). Every woman has her period within about 14 days after ovulation. It is not correct that your will ovulate 14 days after a period unless you have perfect 28-day cycles.

Hope that info helps!
