The Day Before I Got My Period/Started Birth Control, I Had Sex.

I'm 16 years old. I went off of my birth control for a month after misplacing the package and not being able to find it. After getting the new birth control patches, I had to wait until the day I got my period to put one on.
All of you are probably thinking that I'm stupid and I don't care about myself, but seriously, I made a mistake. I've been really good and responsible about everything I have to do and I just wanted to party one night. So I did, and I ended up having unprotected sex just a few hours before starting my period, (It came in the night.) and I regret it because in the morning I was sober and realized that I really hadn't wanted to in the first place.
Ok, now I'll get to the point...
I put the birth control patch on the next day. Is there a possibility I could be pregnant? I'm going to take a test in a week anyway to make sure, but should I remove the patch incase I am, to prevent harming the potential fetus?
I need help right now, I'm scared.

I read on another website (I've been researching this for about two hours now.) That there is a slight chance it could happen, sperm can hang around for several days, you could ovulate early, horror story upon horror story. So that made me nervous.
Your comment helped me calm down a lot though, thank you.

And with my ex boyfriend I always used both =) Thanks for the advice though.

I won't be partaking in the substance abuse area of highschool parties anymore though. ha...

I agree with Joy. While it's possible to ovulate at any time, this is usually with irregular cycles. If you did test, you would have to wait at minimum of two weeks since you last had sex. Just be more careful in the future. You never know who has what anymore. Good luck.

You cannot conceive the day before your period. When you ovulate (which is about 2 weeks before your period, not after your period, unless you have a typical 28-day cycle) the egg only lives for about 24-48 hours.

Also the time between ovulation and your period needs to be at least 10 days or more or the fertilized egg cannot properly implant before hormones kick in and tell your body, "You're not pregnant; go ahead and menstruate!"

So I wouldn't give it another thought.

A word of friendly advice though- Birth Control won't prevent pregnancy 100% so always have protection or just abstain from sex. Not to mention they won't protect you from STDs at all. Keep yourself safe! You don't sound dumb or stupid. We all make mistakes.
