Very Low Progesterone

Ok, this is stemming from a previous issue so I will try to make it as brief as possible.  On April 1st I found out I was pg, then started to bleed on April 3 and found out I was miscarrying on the 5th.  The Dr. received all my blood results on the 5th and said the only problem that could have had an effect was that I had low progesterone.  She said it wasn't alarmingly low, but that she was going to recommend that I start supplementing until I called with the bad news that I was bleeding.  So since then the Dr. has been checking my hcg levels weekly to ensure that they go down properly...on April 1st they were 93, April 5th 91, April 14th 11, April 22nd was 43.  Yep, I got pregnant again.  On April 26 my hcg rose again to 90 something, but my progesterone is at 1.9???  I could only have conceived within the last 2 weeks, so I am wondering could the low progesterone be due to the fact that I just miscarried?  It wasn't that low the last time, I think it was at 12 last time.  She says if my hcg doubled again tomorrow that she would start supplementing then, but that she doesn't want to add support to a (for lack of a better word) bad pregnancy.  Any advice is appreciated.  Thanks.

Oh, and just a little more info, my breasts are not bothering me like they have in the past pregnancies (2 out of 3 miscarriage) and I am not getting the urgency to pee like I have previously, but maybe (hopefully) that is because I am not that far along or because estrogen is not overtaking due to lack of progesterone??????  Anyone???

Well, my hcg only went up 10.  The Dr.s are telling me that this is no way a normal pregnancy.  I think they are leaning toward an ectopic, which does make sense.  I am scheduled to go in Friday and have the Methotrexate injection to end the pregnancy.  As much as I would love to have hope, I just don't think the risk of tubal pregnancy outweighs the chance of a normal pregnancy.  Now they aren't even certain that this was a new pregnancy since my hcg never went all the way down in the first place.  What an emotional roller coaster.

I was told that my levels being 6.4 after O when I was not pregnant would not support me getting pregantn and if I did I woudl definetly mc. That is too low and I would call her asap tonight to get the suppliments! You should have them from the night after O till you have a blood test on CD 32-33 of you hav enot strated to make sure you are not pregnant before stopping. I MC the omnth I before I got pregnatn with this one just from not starting the meds on time, being two days late as the pharmacy did not mail them in time. When you O they should be over 12 and when you are pregnant at 4 weeks whould be over 25 the quicky rise fast. Mine was 46 at CD 32 and this has been the only pregnancy (my 5th) I have not bleed the whole time nor mc a twin nor been on bed rest. A baby can not survive at 1.6 and might not even attach well or long and they would call that a chemical prengancy. Your dr is very wrong! Call her please and best of luck.

Also my cousin had progesterone prblems and never got her meds till after pregnancy. She even bleed and her HCG went from 210 to 25 but the baby survived and is three, so miricvles can happen but the dr ahs to be fast and proactive!

I agree with cycl3chick. i am a very faithful person, but have had two miscarriages in the past. I know some will say "whats meant to be" but this time i asked for progesterone and have a healthy girl on the way. If your doctor will not give you supplement, you can get progesterone cream from health food stores you would have to make sure its natural and for luteal phase defects.  I would hate to see you have a miscarriage, and one that couldve been prevented is even worse. I hope everything works out for you :)

Sometimes His will is for you to fix what is wrong so you can have a baby.  If I waited to see what His will was for me, I would be dead from cancer right now, instead of healthy and pregnant.  Its hard to not know what to do, but sometimes I think God wants you to be proactive and not sit back and wait for Him to do something.  There is nothing wrong with taking progesterone, its just a hormone that your body needs and naturally produces anyway.  I took progesterone and now I have a healthy pregnancy.

I am praying that God will raise my progesterone and double my hcg level if it is His will for me to have this baby.  If my progesterone raises at all I am going to take it as a sign to go ahead with the supplements....I think.  I'm confused.  This stinks, having to decide this baby's fate.

Depending on your hcg levels tomorrow and your Dr.s recommendations, get a second opinion!

Good luck to you :-)

you need to be on progesterone, i would demand it. 1.9 is too low and cannot support a pregnancy. this could be the cause of your first loss. adding support to a "bad pregnancy" would not make you keep an embryo with abnormalities. i hope the best for you!
