birth control options after the baby

I used to take birth control pills and did just fine on those. I tried the ring but had some freak allergic reaction to it. I definitely want to try breast feeding but realize that I can't be on the pill if I breast feed. A friend has suggested the IUD, she just recently got it. Just wondering if anyone else has used those? If they like/felt comfortable with it. I'm aware of the risks with an IUD - anyone have any bad experiences with one? I just don't want another baby for awhile. And yes I'm aware of condoms, but lets face it when you have been with someone for 3 years - no one wants to use those again. Lol.

I posted before I was done, lol. I had Mirena for 4 years and didn't have issues with it other than hubby getting poked, that was fixed by going to see doc and having her cut the strings shorter. After I had it removed so we could TTC again it was a nightmare though, I didn't have a period for over a year and wasn't ovulating either. Took a little over two years for us to get pregnant, I'm going to get the nonhormone copper IUD after this baby.

You can still breastfeed on the pill, your doctor will prescribe you a "minipill" which doesn't have as much hormone in it so it shouldn't affect your milk supply. I was on it after both my kids and still exclusively breastfed them.

My sister in law tried iud and her husband at the time cut his wee wee on it.. ouch. And it also made her have break outs. But I have heard many good stories about them on here. I guess it all depends on the lady!
