Working out again?

hey girls i just had my baby almost 3 weeks ago i was wondering when it is safe to start working out again? Oh and how long does it usually take until all your swelling goes down?

I was just told at my childbirth class(taught by an ob nurse) to hold off on exercising until your 6w checkup.

I agree with everyone else. Wait until your 6 week check up. Then, start slow and work your way up to a more intense workout. I suggest purchasing a post partum workout video....

i agree wait till the chk up you need the go ahead from the dr! But if you feel like stopping by the weight loss forum here im sure some of the gals would be happy to help with any ?'s u might have!! i also use spark people its a great site and its all free and theres definetly a group there than tell you all about it!!

I agree with babyscience; you should wait until after your 6 week checkup for your doctor to say it's okay. It takes some women a bit longer sometimes to fully recover from childbirth so it's always best to get the doctor's ok. Good luck!

I would wai until you 6 week check up to get the go ahead to work out.  They say to take it easy until you stop bleeding completely, a lot of times if you do to much during that time it will cause you to bleed more.  They swelling can take any amount of time.  I would say it took me good 6 months to have the pregnancy look gone, but it may be sooner depending on your body.  AFter about 3 months I was able to fit in most my jeans...tightly though.  It just depends on how your body bounces back.
