Baby clothes?? What size?? confused.

What are you ladies planning on doing for your babies "going home" outfit?? Im so confused about what size to take with me to the hospital when I go.. I know its a few months away but my aunts doctor told her the baby was small the entire time she was pregnant and he ended up being almost 9 pounds.  She delivered 45 minutes away from her house and only brought a preemie outfit with her because the doctor was anticipating a 6 pound baby! so my uncle had to run all the way home and get a bigger outfit for him to go home in lol.  I was just wondering because my doctor tells me my baby is measuring about a week small for my EDD and i was only 5 pounds 13 ounces when I was born.  Boyfriend was 7 pounds 8 ounces.  So.. I have been really tiny my whole life.  Petite build, size 0, 91 pounds before getting pregnant.  I am now 26 weeks and I weight 107 probably went up about 1 pant size.  I just cant imagine having a big baby because I cant imagine that my body would let me carry a baby that big! lol Im so confused about what to do or what size clothes I should be looking for.. Right now Im pretty set on newborn and 0-3 month clothes but I just want to be prepared in case I have a smaller baby too.. What do you think?

holy mollie baby edgar lol those sizes would have me confused like no other. Why don't they do it simply like we do here in the US? Thats just an odd way of sizing baby cloths lol.

Thanks ladies.. Another quick question.  The other day my mom came home with 3 packs of Preemie diapers.. Lol they were on sale I guess so she bought them.  Has anyone put preemie diapers on their newborn? My mom said she put them on me for about 2 months.. But I was pretty small too.. She said that my sisters wore them in the hospital too.  I was just wondering whether to just skip that and bring the newborn diapers just like bringing the newborn outfit or do diapers run weird? lol I know these are kind of stupid questions but I get really confused when I go shopping as to what sizes to get.. I guess Ill have a better idea in a couple months.. Thanks for the help

im with losingmymindinGA when it comes to the premie outfit.

i say only take a newborn. theres no need for a premie unless you go into labor early. i dont see how 8+lbs babys could fit into them. my son was only 8lbs 1 ounce and was large in just newborns! because he was so big he had to move to up to bigger outfits pretty soon. i had an ultrasound the day before i went into labor and they told me he looked like he was going to be 9lbs! phew he wasnt. but if you look at all the newborn clothes they say 5-8lbs i think. and unless you think your babys going to be under 5lbs then i say dont waste the money on premie clothes

I've never taken a preemie outfit...I would suggest taking a "newborn" size and a "0-3" months size.   I would also suggest taking a warmer weather and a cooler weather outfit of each size.  Even though it's the middle of summer or winter when you give birth you never know how the weather will act the day you go home.  My oldest was the only one who fit preemie outfits she was 4 lbs 15 oz.  My others typically fit into newborn or 0-3 mos depending on the outfit and brand.  They  were 6 'bs 7 oz, 7 lbs 6 oz and 7 lbs 15 oz.  and they all ranged from 8 1/4" to 21"

I would take a few going home outfits. Newborns like JoyRenee said sometimes swim in their newborn clothes, so taking a pair of newborn and preemie outfits is a good idea. Also something I learned with my sister and watching her delivery, I suggest bringing a 0-3 months outfit too. Her baby was estimated at 7lbs 9ounces and he came out a whopping 10 pounds 1.2 ounces, and her neworn/preemie outfits didnt fit him very well lol.

Im take 1 preemie outfit equipped with a preemie hat, and a newborn outfit and neworn hat, I have big babies as well normally over 8 pounds, and when my boys were born their newborn outfits hung off them like a shopping rack lol.

well i think drs can be very wrong when they estimate the weight when my son was born 5 years ago they said he would be a 5-6 pounder and he was 8 and then when my daughter was born 18 months ago they said she would be a big baby about 10 pounds and she was 7 and with this baby who is almost 5 weeks they told me she was around 6 pounds and she came out a little over 9 lbs i would just bring a newborn outfit my daughter still fits into newborn clothes and she is about 10 pounds now. also i don't think it matters how big you were at birth because i was not even 5 lbs when i was born and have always been small my whole life and all my babies have been a good size .

i agree with the ladies above, preemie outfit all the way! I used preemies for both my lovely ladies (they were 5 lbs 4oz, 8lbs 5oz) and both wore preemie outfits home, only my oldest (5lb 4oz) was way too tiny for even that! lol I think my youngest (8lbs 5oz) had all her fluff in her cheeks though. she had neck rolls!

we bought a little cardigan/pant/beanie outfit....and it's going over a onesie.....and i think it is 0-3 months....i bought about 5-7 newborn outfits, most everything else is 0-3, and b/c we found a good sale at the disney store, he already has a couple 3-6 pj's lol.....my intent is to bring 2 diff onesies,b/c i figure the outfit itself, where as with a diaper the pants might fit, but i'm thinking the cardigan may not, so hence the onesie underneath.....

Thanks ladies! That is strange that preemie clothes are big on newborns lol for some reason lately I have been having nightmares about a huge baby.  I think its because Im worried that if I have a big baby I wont be able to deliver naturally.. But thanks for the advice.  I was at walmart today looking at baby clothes and I wanted to buy some but didnt know what size to get!

My son was 8lb 10oz and the 0-3 clothes were huge...I had others that just said "Newborn," and those were huge too. I bought the outfits thinking that there was no way that my son would be that small, but even at 8lb 10oz, he was still tiny to me.

I agree with JoyRenee...bring a Preemie outfit because that's probably what you'll need. I wouldn't buy too many of them because he/she will only be wearing them for a couple of weeks. Walmart has some really cute Preemie clothes and they're always on sale for $2.00...sometimes even less. I just saw that all of their summer clothes are going on sale, so check them out.

well my baby was ten days past his due date and i was told he was pretty big, but he ended up being 7lbs 5 oz and we had bought him a 0-3 months coming home outfit and it was too big so hubby had to run out and get some premie outfits. I would get a premie outfit and a 0-3 month outfit just to be on the safe side. sorry i wasn't much help =]

You should take one PREEMIE outfit and one NEWBORN outfit. Believe it or not but most newborns practically swim in the preemie outfits. Newborns are very skinny!

Don't base your baby's size on how much you've gained because small women can have huge babies and vice versa. Doctors can guess baby's weight, give or take a pound (aka 16 ounces). So if doctor is saying you'll give birth to a 5 lb baby, your baby could really be about 6 lbs.
