Bumper pads are a big reason for SIDS (sudden infant death syndrome) because many times an infant will get their face against the pad and not know to turn their head to be able to breathe. With an infant you should use a mesh pad. Its made of jersey type material that allows for breathing in these situations because its holey. Actual bumper pads shouldn't be used until the baby can roll over on its own and is old enough to know to move when it can't breathe.
I never have used them better safe than sorry...jus a tightly fitted crib sheet is all you need. My cousin just lost her 2 month old son last month to sids...so heartbreakening & scary to think all she needed to do was have nothing in his crib & he may be alive today.
go with our* gut feelings.
I didn't start using the bumpers until my son was 8 months old. He's 9 months now. He's always been a stomach sleeper. I've tried and tried to keep him off his belly but that's how he likes to sleep. Without them on, his little chubby legs got caught between pieces.
There are a lot of things as a mother we have to go with out gut feelings about. Some say do this, some day don't do that. It's a matter of what you're comfortable with. Read reviews, go off your own judgement. Don't google every little thing or you will be freaked out. I was looking up stuff about crib death right before my son was born and I barely slept at ALL. Little things can turn into big things. Just watch over your baby and use your own judgement and help of recommendations. Also, without them now, my son would be just about bruised up! He's learning to pull up in his bed and fell straight over and smack the side of his bed right on top of the bumper. Had it not of been there, I think it'd hurt a little more.
All I bought was a fitted crib sheet. I heard that's all u should have in the crib..
health canada hasnt reccomended them for some time now... my crib set did come with them but i never used it, i was under the impression no one used them anymore lol and i honestly didnt even think twice about it...

I usrd them with my first and plan to with this one...they keep their little arms and legs from getting caught in the bars!!
My came with my bedding. There's too many little things to worry about lol.
I never used them...but only really because I didn't see any need for them other than looking pretty and they are ridiculously expensive. I had also heard that they were dangerous, I dont think they are recommended here either, but I think its just another of those risk factors that can be eliminated. I have heard that they are to help prevent baby getting stuck between the bars, but there was no way my kids could have done that, the bars were too close together for their heads to go in and too far apart to trap any limbs, plus I either tucked my kids in so their legs couldnt flail about or they were in the sleeping bags.
I planned on using them too. I just keep getting so many comments with this hole trying to.band thing.

I used them with my daughter all the way until I took the side rail to turn it into a daybed and there is nothing wrong with her.
I too have heard & read that bumper pads are a no-no, but my crib set.came with them. Also I used them on the crib with both of my other children. Don't know the statistics but I'm using mine & like my other kids, I will remove them once my little one is old enuff to roll over & get to them.
