I want to be checked because im in such excruciating pain all i do is cry. I cant sleep, sit, stand, lay down, anything without crying in extreme pain on my hips... im only 36 weeks today.... i was going to try to talk to my doctor about being induced because i cannot handle this anymore.. i have to crawl to the bathroom at night because my hips pretty much lock when i lay down.... im so tired of being in pain 24/7

My midwives never checked my cervix until I was admitted to the birthing center 13 hours into active labor at 40w and I asked them to.

There's no good reason to check the cervix of a low-risk woman who is showing no signs of preterm labor. All it does is irritate the cervical tissue and raise the risk of infection. It doesn't tell you ANYTHING about how soon labor will start - a woman can be 3cm dilated for two months or go from 0-10 in three hours.

Amount of dilation week by week tells you absolutely nothing, it just increases your stress levels because it's either "OMG I'm already 2cm and I'm only 36 weeks I'm gonna have the baby tomorrow" or "OMG I'm 38 weeks and I'm not dilated yet this baby is never coming out." It makes zero sense why anyone wants to have that useless information.

Everyone is different. How far along are you and why do you want him to check?
