Im also not a high risk pregnancy either, the doctors at the hospital do this for everyone!
I personally chose to only have one ultrasound but I think the typical practice here in the US is at LEAST two ultrasounds - an initial one and the 20wk anatomy scan. I've had several friends who seem to have then more frequently though, but not as frequent as what you're describing.
I think two to four is the average in the USA but it also depends on what kind of provider you're seeing. An obgyn that deals with mostly high risk patients is going to order more scans than the typical ob, who is going to order more than a typical cnm, and lay or direct entry midwives only order ultrasound in very rare cases.
Maybe my hospital is just weird and likes looking at our babies as much as we do, lol. I had an anatomy scan at 21 weeks and an appt the day after lirerally, with an ultrasound.
