pprom at wk 18 (maybe a little further along)

Hi my name is Michelle, my fiance is my life long friend and soulmate. Up until 9 days ago we were having a very haelthy and happy pregnancy. We had a few very early ultr sounds due to normal or minimal ammounts of spotting early on and everything with baby and I looked well and healthy. I am unsure of my esact date of conception but the baby was around 17-18 weeks gestation according to measurments and ultra sounds 9 days ago when I suddenly fely a kick a pop and a major gush of fluids. I was doing very minimal light duty house work at the time, although I have been preparing to move, I have been taking it easy and cant imagine anything I did to cause this.My baby has been very strong through this, heart beat has never waivered and the fluids have lessoned each day and after first couple days bleeding has fully ceased. I was sent home 4 days ago after a 7 days stay in the hospital, the doctor gave me 7 days of anti biotics and then released me, an hour and 20 mins away. He had me on bed rest through my stay at the hospital but told me to maintain normal activity upon coming home! Including my move! I of course didnt take his advice, given he has said only negative remarks thus far and only offered termination as a possibility or a miracle. He would ask to terminate each time we talked sometimes several times. Since being home , I have found very encouraging information online and have remained on bed rest, I am drining several (10 glasses plus) a day of fluids, milk cranberry juice and water (with a small ammount of crystal light powder to flavor it) mainly. I am taking my prenatal supplements and eating very healthy, the baby is active and my leaking has nearly and fully stopped over the past 3 days..my belly is very pregnant looking the past couple days. Today I spoke with  my doctor and for the first tme he was encouraging, I have an appointment possibly Fri, maybe early next week if all goes well. PLEASE GIVE ADVICE HELP MY BABY I feel afraid to keep my OB and I really need the best advice I can get. Thanks for answering an dsorry for long question, but I figure all the info you ahve may help determining my situation.

I saw your post and imediately started searching treatments for PROM on the internet.  I wish I had good news for you.  It looks like the only treatment they can do before 24 weeks is antibiotics.  IF you continue to carry until 24 weeks, then they will administer steriods and other treatments.  Until the baby reaches viability, there isn't much they can do.  I also read that when PROM occurs prior to viability, the survival rate for the baby is very very small.  I do think it's good to rest and drink pently of fluids though - that can't hurt.  I'm so sorry that this is happening to you, your baby and your family.  I truely hope you beat the odds and are able to deliver a healthy baby.  You're in my prayers.

Everything I have read is saying that complete bedrest is essential!!!!  And continue to drink lots of fluids to help replenish the supply to the baby.  I also read that the 7 days course of antibiotics is the way to go. I read too that in some cases the ruptured area can heal on its own but total bedrest must be followed. Personally I would get another dr.  If you resume normal activities at this point you most likely will deliver and the baby at this point would not survive so I don't understand why your dr would say that.  Best of luck to you.

I also haven't heard great odds for PPROM so early but I have heard of small leaks re-sealing with bed rest. Not being a medical professional, I'm not sure what "small" versus "large" is. One thing I would suggest if you feel scared for your baby with your OB, is to get a new one! Good luck!
