false positive ?

so im about 7 days late this month ( or i think i am because i sometimes have irregular periods ) . it was due on the 31st of may , i  took a first response pregnancy test on the first of this month , it came out as positive but with a faint line . ive had morning sickness, but i  rarely ever throw up ( even with my first pregnancy i only got sick once ) so a few nights ago i went into the hospital because i had pains , i didnt tell them about the pregnancy test because i wasnt sure about it, and i thought they would pick it up anyways if i was  ? they did a urine test and also a blood test, they found nothing . so i took another first response test the next morning and it was another faint positive . now im very confused because there is still no sign of my period . my boy friend thinks that since my period is irregular , it wasnt actually due on the 31st, but later , so it was to early to tell .  is it possible that the blood test could not  tell that i was pregnant  ? ( because first response does say it can tell your pregnant 5 days before your your expected period )

Thanks you . This makes me feel a bit better , actually gives me hope that I might actually be pregnant :) since we are trying to conceive . I was also readin stuff on false negatives and I haven't taken any of the stuff they said could give you a false positive. Also they say the blue ink test can give you false positives, but first response is pink :D I have an appointment with my doctor in 2 weeks so ill see what he has to say

I agree.  FRER is one of the most sensitive tests out there.  The hospital may not have thought to run a pregnancy test since you didn't mention it, it's not something they routinely check for at the ER.  I'd schedule an appt for around a week from now to get a blood test done.  By then you should have enough HCG for it to show positive.  Like Nickie said, you can keep doing the FRER's, I'd say every other day, and see if the line gets darker.  Since you said you sometimes have irregular periods, it could be you ovulated later than normal this cycle therefore becoming pregnant later, which would put you very early in the pregnancy.

First response picks up on 12.5 hcg and the blood test that they gave you was probably a yes/no test (not a quantitative=hcg numbers) so it is probably still too early for a yes no test to show positive. Keep taking home tests and see if they get darker (sounds like you are pregnant it is just early) and then get a blood test done to check your numbers! Good luck!
