hcg 11449 & no yolk sac or fetal pole

Hello everyone, I went to the ER on Sept 8th for cramping. The pregnancy test was positive. However, when the U/S was done the Doctors couldn't see a pregnancy. My hcg level was 578. They have been monitoring my levels ever since. On Sept 17th my Hcg level was 11449 and when the tech conducted the U/S they saw a gestational Sac but NO yolk sac or fetal pole. Supposedly, according to the U/S I was 5wks & 1day.  Because of this the doctors scheduled me for a D&C tomorrow.  
What should I do? I mean, this has never happened to me before.  I have never had a miscarriage. Should i go ahead with the procedure or should I go for a second opinion?  HELP... I'm desperate!

Well, honestly, I would want to wait another week to be sure. I believe you are not suppose to see the yok or the fetal pole before week 6.  Can you reschedule for another week and have a u/s done once again? Just to make sure that the heartbeat isn't there?

I agree with Anya10! I think five weeks is way too early for something like a D&C.   Your uterus may be tipped, which in that case they sometimes can't see anything, or your baby can be a late bloomer, or maybe even the dates aren't correct. I would wait to be on the safe side. I hear too many stories of things appearing after a doctor said their wasn't any hope. Good luck!!!!!

WAIT!!!! When I found out I was preg I went for a scan and I showed something on my ovary(they presumed an ectopic pregnancy) they done my bloods and said I was having an ectopic pregnancy and booked me in for a jag to misscarry my baby,me and my partner demanded a scan before hand only to see a pregnancy in the womb!! And it was a cyst on my ovary :o if we had not demanded a scan I would not be preggo with my baby just now!!  Make shure they double check before any procdures to make Shute and give you peace of mind :)

DO NOT GET A D&C!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had the same thing happen with my last pregnancy! My hcg was high and well past what they considered to be the levels that you "should" see the fetal pole and yolk sac. I went for repeated ultrasounds up until I was 8.5 weeks,she didnt show until then. They suggested it was a blighted ovum and that baby wasnt going to show...... At my last ultrasound they bumped me up half a week..She is now an extremely healthy 7 month old! Do not let them force you into this!

Don't go through with it! Your placenta could be covering the baby or something. Wait at least 8 more days and see a real doctor. hate to say it but ER doctors are stupid.

I am sure its been said,but please do not get a D&C!!!! wait a week and get another U/S and get another opinion, you just never know. If your hcg is going up there should be a viable baby in there.

How far along are you actually? You say that according to U/S you are 5w1d but how far are you? I waiting until my body naturally miscarried my pregnancy. I had a blighted ovum and I guess it was just hope in the back of my mind that something might change.

I would say that if you are the right amount along as what the gestational sac is showing to wait it out a couple more weeks 5 weeks is still too early to really see anything. I went to the my Dr at 8 weeks along and was only showing a gestational sac and my HCG count was showing that i was indeed 8 weeks along. I went back 2 more times for more U/S and they all showed nothing but the gestational sac. By the time I was finally 12 weeks along my body naturally miscarried the pregnancy. It was a long and emotional process and I kept debating whether or not I should opt out and get the DnC but I thought it would be better to let nature take its course.

So for you I would definately wait and not do the DnC right now! You still have time and they shouldnt have given you that option so soon. They should wait until you have had atleast another U/S showing the same thing. I would wait atleast 2 to 3 more weeks before making a decision!

I would go back to a new doctor at 7 weeks, but before then you could also get your HCG numbers checked to see if they are rising. You could do that now.

I would get a second opinion. Dont get the D&C its too early to see the fetal pole and yolk sac until 6weeks!!!!

I say what the others are saying too....Wait! My insurance normally doesnt schedule your first U/S until the 8th week. So I would say probably around that time or so schedule another U/S and see what happens. I know it will seem like forever waiting but at least you will be certain. Good Luck!

I was thinking of you today with hopes that you didnt go through with it...
I would say wait it out, as long as you can....some woman haven't shown anything until 10 weeks, I personally was almost 9 weeks with my daughter.
I had suffered from a blighted ovum aswell, just 4 months before I got pregnant with my daughter, I had a natural miscarriage aswell at about 10 weeks gestation. There is no harm in doing so, unless you have severe bleeding or cramping etc.

6 weeks, 7 weeks, even 8 weeks is too soon!  Check the site misdiagnosed miscarriages....I think its www.misdiagnosedmiscariages.com check it out, you'll see lots of real womans stories on there and it may give you more insight on the whole thing.

Well I DID NOT go through the D&C procedure... I couldn't do it. I mean, I have morning sickness. I feel bloated.  I totally feel pregnant. I guess Im just holding on to my symtoms. However, I know thats not a good thing.  Anyway, I'm gonna wait another week even though I really can't! I'm so nervous that I want to go tomorrow.
Whenever you feel lonely & want to vent you can keep me busy by writing....

Hi everyone,  I followed everyones advise & didn't go through the D&C.  I'm just confused as to when I should go back for a second opinion. last friday I was 5w1d so today I should be 6wks.

With both my pregnancies they didn't even want to see me until I was atleast 8 weeks, Because before then it is hard to see anything. I would wait until you are atleast 8 weeks I know how hard that is trust me! But it will be worth it in the end.

I've never been pregnant but reading over to comments honey I feel that every agrees that u should wait until u are bout 8 weeks. But keep getting HCG tests. Goodluck!

Hi, I would go back at 6.5-7 weeks for u/s. If you don't see the fetal pole there, then the chances that you are still pregnant are slim. Then you can schedule D&C. That's what happened to me. At 5 weeks, they saw only a sac. At 6.5 weeks they didn't see a heartbeat and told me that I have no baby inside. Still, we waited another week to make sure nothing is there. ONLY THEN, at 7.5 weeks, they scheduled a D&C. At actual procedure few days later ( I was 8 weeks by then), they did the sonogram one more time and only then the procedure. So schedule another sonogram at about 7 weeks. Also, the symptoms can still be there :(
