Why are my HCG levels rising but NOT doubling?

Ok, 2 weeks ago i had an Ultrasound. they told me i was 5 weeks and 5 days Pregnant, The Fetal heartbeat was 112 Beats per minute. My Nurse Practitioner told me that heart rate was a little slow, SO she did an HCG level test and after 2 blood tests, and 48 hrs later the numbers did increase, but DID not double like she expected them too. i am now 7 weeks pregnant as of yesterday. i SEE my obgyn for the first time on the 13th. Maybe he can ease my mind. I have 2 other children and have never experienced a miscarriage before, could i be starting to have one? i am not cramping or bleeding or spotting. geeeez i am scared.

When you get to a certain point hcg levels will kind of level off and not double anymore.  They will still rise some. You may be at that point.  The fact you saw a heartbeat is awesome.  They like the heartrate to be at 120 at that stage but you were at 112 not far off at all so I think things are still on the positive side for you.  And like you said no spotting cramping or bleeding so that's a great sign too.  Hopefully you will get another ultrasound soon to ease your mind.  Good luck.

Stay calm, hon. I'm going to tell you what happened to me last year & because it's similar, it may help you figure it out but it doesn't mean that you're miscarrying...

I was around 6w when I went to the er but they told me via vaginal ultrasound that I appeared to be 5w 4d & performed the same hcg levels tests. Mine did the same as yours, rose but didn't double as was expected. However, it was still so early that they had me wait a couple weeks later to see an obgyn. I was supposed to be 8w when I saw her & they did blood work & another vaginal ultrasound; my hcg levels were still rising slowly but the embryo was still showing at 5w 4d indicating it was dead & I'd had what is called a missed miscarriage. A missed miscarriage occurs but doesn't show any of the symptoms we all were taught to be the basic signs of a miscarriage.
Now this doesn't mean this is what is happening to you, though. Hcg rises differently with each pregnancy & they were able to identify a heartbeat with yours. Mine had no heartbeat. Try to stay calm until you know more before getting upset. You're probably fine, hon. Good luck!!
