The your baby can read program was discontinued but can be found on ebay. It does not work for every child. We bought it and it was useless. Our daughter has learned more from human interaction. She is 3.5. Reads, writes, can count to 100 and is working on math skills. I am a stay at home mom as well. We only do "school"lessons for 30 to 45 min a day. Also talk to your baby like a person. That baby talk crap doesnt help anyone lol. She sing, dance, talk to baby about everything. It helps.
I am excited as well but at the same time freaked out.. I am a PEDs nurse so I spend all day with children and teaching parents about their children and I'm just nervous that when its my own I won't be as level headed
ME TOO! I try to share my exitment with my friends and family but theyre all just like "ita not gonna be all raibows and butterflies".... im just like I know thqt its not im aware its gonna be hard as heck raising a child but why would I sit there and talk about all the negatives.. so im glad I can share my exitment here :)
All of this conversation has me extremely excited for when my child is here :) I cannot wait to begin exploring life together.
I speak fluent spanish so I will make sure she knows both! My nephew can speak and understand both languages, hes almost 3
Also if you know someone who speaks a different language get them to read to baby at least once a week in their language. Baby will pick up the language if its kept up and will be able to pick up languages easier in later life.
Ive heard that before as well about no tv for the first two years I forgot though and thanks yall either way I have more than enough time to read to her and play and learn stuff and stuff :)
I work in the field of early education and everything can be learned through play.
You should sing to your baby even before birth.. converse about everything "mammys going to change your nappy- we will get you a nice clean bum" - baby loves your voice and the " parent ease" tone mothers usually put on while speaking to their infants.
Read to them for fun from as early as you like.
And everything should be through play and fun :) I guarantee you if you teach through play you'll have one happy clever kid.
Also let them do stuff like play in mud and sand and feel textures etc :)
I second StarsoverSnow. Baby Einstein and my baby can read are not developmentally appropriate for little brains. They are just expensive, and profitable programs that focus on short term gains through memorization instead of a love of learning.
Learning starts immediately with babies. Read books to her everyday, starting right away. Make up or read nursery rhymes as rhyming helps children acquire language. Sing to them, explain what you are doing 'the clock says it's noon, that means it's time for mommy's lunch! What should mommy eat today? How about a turkey sandwich? What do we put on a turkey sandwich? Mayo? Lettuce? Cheese? Cat food? No! We don't put cat food on a sandwich!' Or things like how many birds can we count on the tree? What foods in the grocery store start with the letter M?
Reading A-Z, Dr. JEAN, PBS kids, and your local library are great resources for age appropriate activities. The goal should always be to get your kid to love reading, learning, and discovering new things. Everything else follows. - Early Literacy Specialist for +5 years
Starsoversnow is correct they now recommend no TV time under 2 and this includes the iPad and smart phones too... It hinders their development in other areas and doesn't allow them to learn the way babies are meant to learn that young, which is by observing, touching, and mouthing objects.
Developmental doctors and therapists recommend against programs like "Your Baby Can Read"
They actually recommend no TV time under 2 years old. This blocks their ability to develop in other areas. Their brain is focusing too hard on learning how to read, or whatever the case is, and not enough on just developing.
They recommend just reading, allowing them to do creative activities, learning letters and what not. On Pinterest you can find a TON of developmental activities by age. I really like the letter ones done with various materials.
Of course, no matter what it is your child and ultimately your decision. What's best for you is not what's best for everyone. I'll be doing the same, I work from home and I'll be working with my child to learn different things about the world. I cannot wait to take him/her to museums and planetariums :) it'll be exciting.
My nephew is 4 and they also didnt really teach him so ive been trying too. And I have a niece that is 4 she can read write count to 100. So maybe it depends on there attention span. If u show interest in teaching them colors and stuff they may enjoy it no matter what age. But I agree I don't like jus letting them watch cartoons all day especially non educational one
Immediately. Babies brains learn and absorb things immediately. It's just how the brain works.
I was reading in a book that if you have a biter while trying to breast feed, saying "no" firmly and taking your nipple from them will work after a few tries to get them to stop biting.
Discipline and knowledge are learned as soon as they are introduced.
I just googled it I think I probably will give it a try!
We have the dvds for the your baby can read, it works and my sisters love it
Is that like a dvd thing or something?
Start off first thing with your baby can read program we used it on my baby brother right after he was born he was reading by age 2
