One of my worst fear...
I'm SUPER scared to have a c-section! Now my pregnancy has been GREAT this whole time & now for the last 2 weeks(week 37 & 38 of my pregnancy), My blood pressure has been high which has resulted in my doctor to tell me that if it's still high Monday, June 14th, 2010 that she is going to induce me! I'm hoping and praying that my son's heart rate won't drop so that I won't have to have a c-section! :-( Does anyone have any positive words to offer me about this?!
Sorry you went through that - I think that is every womans worst fear- laboring only to have a csection after hours of contractions.... but you have a little one in your arms now!!! Congrats!!!
poor thing..I'm so sorry your labor was so bad, but thank God you've got your healthy little one and you came out of it healthy..that IS all that matters. congrats momma...glad it's all over for you!!!! now comes the hard part, but it's sooooo much fun!!!
Thank you guys for the responses but no, my labor was HORRIBLE!!! I was induced on June 14th at half a centimeter dialated & by June 16th... I was only 3 centimeters! So guess what? THEY HAD TO DO A C-SECTION! I was afraid!!! The contractions were well let's just say the pain was something I can't explain! & why did I feel them? Because the pain medicine they were giving me didn't work at ALL!!! As you know that you can't get an epidural until you hit 3 but I was in so much pain that they gave me one before I hit 3. THANK GOD! lol But nothing matters because I'm a mother to a healthy baby boy & that's all the matters in the end!!! :-)
First of all induction and c-sections are two different things. If your doctor is going to induce that doesn't mean surgery.
The main focus here is to have a healthy baby and to keep YOU healthy by whatever means necessary. C-sections aren't usually as bad as people make them out to be. I had a c -section with my first child at the age of 18. I was up and walking around the next day without pain meds. I was back at work after a month. The only real problem I had was that I popped a staple 2 days after ...that was thanks to my mom and best friend making me laugh so hard I couldn't control it.
I have since gone on to have FOUR vaginal births and I'm aiming for another with this pregnancy. I'm not for c-sections if they aren't absolutely medically necessary but when they ARE it's the best thing.
Now I would insist on the induction before any talk of a c-section. Inductions do not necessarily lead to c-sections. It all depends on how your labor progresses.
Just remember, the end result is a happy healthy baby and a healthy mommy to take of him/her :)

I am just like you! Absolutely terrified of a c-section. I think a lot of times c-sections are misused, however with the many medical law suits that doctors can possibly face from complications in delivery, a lot of doctors choose to steer clear of those risks by doing a c-section. I feel just because the baby's heart rate drops once or twice isn't that big of a deal, I would suspect if your being squeezed like a baby is, your heart rate and other things are going to happen. If the fluctuations are small...like 160 to 140, I don't think that is called for a c-section.
My DB has 2 children from his previous marriage, and both of the boys were born via c-section. The first was an emergency c-section which to me made no sense at all. His wife had almost completely delivered their son, he was crowning, and they did a c-section because his heart rate dropped from 170 to 130, and the cord was wrapped around his neck, which is very common. They completely knocked his wife out....she was not awake at all when they delivered the baby via c-section. The second time around they would not let her do a vbac, and they had a scheduled c-section.
My doctor knows that I do not want a c-section by any means. Not unless I am bleeding to death, having a stroke, heart attack or any other life threating issues. I will not have a c-section unless the babies heart rate decelerates and stays at a decelerated level for a period of time, i'm talking about the heart rate dropping well below the 100's.
If my doctor does a c-section on me, to try and save his own butt.....and ruins my chances of a normal vaginal pregnancy for future babies....well he has another thing coming. I am lucky to have an amazing doctor(Back home in MI). I had complications with my middle son, he came out wrong for one, and got stuck at the shoulder for two....and I didn't have a c-section, and my son is perfectly healthy at 4 yrs old. Just a bit short lol...but that runs in the family!
With this baby, I plan on being just as I was with the others. NO c-section unless I or my baby is lying on the death bed. Women have been giving birth without c-sections for thousands of years. And if labor was really that complicated, the human race would not exist. I don't think a caveman was capable of doing a c-section because the fetal heart rate dropped 15-20 beats.

Regarding the pain after you deliver - I took some meds at home - not much as really after the first couple of days it is not bad - 2nd section I had a 2 year old at home and him - my hubby only took off the day we came home.... you manage through it... the first couple weeks all the baby really needs it to be fed, changed and they sleep most of the time.. so you will be able to rest a bit...you will be fine taking care of him.... try not to worry about that.
There are a lot of people on here that are very against c-sections unless of course medically necessary. While I agree to some point - there are plenty of reasons why a c-section could be performed.... I tend to hope that the drs perform them for the benefit of the baby rather than the convience of time - but that is a serious debate, not for here!! :). I have had 2 csections - the first was an emergency section - but I knew it was going to be a csection because my DD was a footling breech - yup.. her little feeties were through my cervix and in my birth canal from 19 weeks until she was born 32 weeks. There is a lot of risk involved with that type of position - primarily was a prolapsed cord... if the cord came out first with her feet and I labored it could have been disasterous. All went well - yes it was for me painful - the hardest thing was standing up for the first time - it was a pain I never felt.. but there were a few things against me on that - I had been in the hospital on bedrest for 15 weeks - I had lost a lot of muscle tone - so walking/standing was not that easy for me under normal circumstances.. second was I was put on a morphine drip for pain - It was then that I learned that morphine does NOTHING for me... so I had to struggle through what seemed like hours - I am sure more like 30 mins until they could get some stronger meds from the dr and pharmacy. 2nd section was smoother - my cervix was stitched at 13 weeks so I did not have the preterm labor issues as I did with the first. We removed the stitch at 35 weeks expecting me to open quickly - scar tissue develeped and my cervix remained shut... I was told he was somewhere in the 9lb to 10lb range... I have a very very small birth canal .... dr said he could not imagine anything larger than 7lbs making it through there... so we opted for the section in the late 39 week mark because nothing was cooking.... I knew about the morphine so I asked before we went in to have it ready - they did. My pain was monitored - the baby was perfect.. all went very well. Since I already had 2 sections they will not try a VBAC - even though I want one soooo badly... but I understand their reasons. I am scheduled for my third section on 7/20 - I am still apprehensive and extreamly nervous even though I have been through it twice... but I know in the end I will be holding my little girl and that is what really matters to me... I wish you all the best and hope things turn out the way that you hope them to... and if not.,.. just remember - you will be holding your little one either way - and that feeling will supercede any feelings leading up to it!!! GOOD LUCK!!!
Thanks sweety! I'm basically scared to have one because I'm not good with pain for one and for two...My boyfriend and my mom can only be off for a week with me! Having a c-section, I'm scared that I won't be able to take care of him the way he needs to be :-(
hopefully this will progress on nicely on monday and you wont need a c-section
dont be scared...you are in the best place and the docs have done many many c-sections....just keep the sight of meeting your baby boy in your mind and you'll be alright
