He's Here!

Pictures on my MedHelp page!

Oliver Nelson came into this world on Tuesday November 25, 2008 at 1:58 a.m. He weighs 6 lbs 12 oz and was 19 inches long. He has lots of black fuzzy hair!

The birth went well. I was induced with pitocin around 2:30 in the afternoon at only a fingertip dilated. I progressed about 1 cm an hour or so, around 5:30 I was a good 3 cm and then I got kind of stuck there. At 9 pm I got some IV pain medicine and it made me really sleepy but took the edge off. It wore off around 10:30 and I decided to get the epidural. The nurse anesthetist was doing someone else's epidural though so I had to wait and the contractions started to get really bad. I was only at a 4 cm but they were so painful I was moaning/deep breathing through them. Epidural got placed about 12:30. I told them I wanted a "light" one so I could still feel my legs and move around. She said that she would dose it higher initially to help me get some rest and that it would only last an hour or so.

Well at 1:30 she checked me again and the head was right there! "Don't push!" she said and ran to phone the doctor. He came about 15 minutes later, one push and out he was! It was so quick and it was over!  My husband cut the cord and Oliver started crying. He's such a good little man.

I'm such a proud mam, but I'm even more amazed at how wonderful my husband has been bonding to him. It's fun to watch. He doesn't want to let the baby out of his sight now. He was somewhat ambivalent towards the baby when I was pregnant, I was worried at how they would bond. He said it's one of those things that everyone tells you will change your life, but until it does you have no idea. :o)

Nursing has been going slow - he doesn't want to eat from the left side so since I had to pump that side anyway I have just been pumping and feeding him from the bottle. Pumping is NOT easy on the nipples time and time again!

He is a good baby, he's so alert, he hardly ever cries, just looks around calmly.

I've started to get some post-partum depression. It's too cold to go out and my husband and other kids are gone all day so I'm just here by myself. I'm doing my best to keep optimistic and having Oliver around certainly does help.

Vaseline will help your nipples out, and it doesn't affect the baby when feeding!

Congrats on the baby!  And it seems as if your hubby will love this baby seriously unconditionally!!!  hehehe I love it when they do that!!

Yay for you!
