Has anyone taken hormones?

Dr put me on progesterone (I think I spelled it) to help keep the pregnancy. Anyone taken this and know why it works? Did it work for you?

What anniebrooke said is true. I was given progesterone fr wk 6 becoz i was bleeding that time. It keeps me going till end of 1st trimester. Now i am 13 wks. Ultrasound shows the baby doing great. It really helps.

It is given to help a woman retain her uterine lining rather than shed it as a period.  If you have an embryo that has implanted, pretty soon the placenta will begin to produce a lot of progesterone for that reason.  Some women (this is not true of all women, though) don't produce very much progesterone in their first few weeks of pregnancy, and for those women, progesterone supplementation has proven helpful.  (A friend of mine miscarried every time she didn't take progesterone, and carried her son safely to term when she did take progesterone, so obviously for her the progesterone helped.)  Even for women who don't have low progesterone, it does not harm anything to take it in early pregnancy.  In IVF, it is given routinely.  I hear it is broadly prescribed in early pregnancy if you live in Europe.
