midstream urine?

Do you guys think using or not using midstream urine can really affect a HPT that much??  I have been racking my brain all morning why my FRER came up positive Friday night and this mornings FMU with FRER came up negative.  I know Friday I took it on a whim and had trouble opening it hence I used midstream.  This morning I was prepared and didn't use midstream.  Any thoughts?

with HPT's they are rated at the least GUARANTEED detection. They are made in batches and some are more sensitive than others. There is a wide variation in the tests so some may pick up REALLY early and some later but the rating that they have is the minimum amount that EVERY TEST will pick up by. So for FRER, it is 25 which means every test will detect hCG of 25 or more but some can pick up MUCH earlier. Dollar Tree tests are rated at 25 also but women have gotten +'s as low as 7! It is possible you just got an extra sensitive one then one that wasn't as sensitive. It is also possible that you had a chemical. The only way to know for sure is to wait a few days and re test. Good Luck!

Well, if you had an hcg of 8 on wenesday, then the hcg definately has to start from somewhere.  The only other things that I know that would secrete hcg, are very uncommon health conditions such as certain types of cancer, some ovarian cysts, but like I said, they are VERY UNCOMMON conditions.  I doubt that a hpt would pick up an hcg level of 8 as most of them only pick up starting froma level of 25.  You may still be in that window of being right on the line of when the hpt will pick up the hormone.  Wait a few more days and take it again.  I also have done alot of research on what can make false positive and false negative results, and from what I have gathered so far, false negatives are WAY more common than false positives.  There are a few types of medications that can cause false positive results, but they are mainly all cancer drugs, and fertility drugs.  I have heard that promethazine had been known to cause false positive results, but I cannot find any other information about it.  So I don't know how true that is.  I know that no antidepressants cause false positives.  So you should go with your gut feeling.  Take another one in a few days and go from there.

Good luck!

any blood result under 10 is counted as a negative. i'd advise another blood test, it's possible you're very early on in a pregnancy...or not pregnant.

i don't think it makes a jot of difference either. i'm on my 4th pregnancy and all i can say is i never took a hpt that seriously until about 5 days after my period was due. i personally did not have any luck with frers either. they kept coming up negative when i was in fact pregnant and when i read reviews on them, other women had the same story too. i know some women do rate them, but you may want to try a different brand like the dollar tree test.

Well I have irregular periods.  My last period was April 13th.  I had a check up with my family doctor for my Paxil that I got put on in February.  He ordered a blood test after I told him about my sore breasts and pressure in my lower abdomen.  Not thinking anything of it, it came back indeterminate.  On Wednesday (blood was drawn Monday, results Tuesday) I had my annual pap with my OBGYN.  He did a blood test and it came back Thursday indeterminate with a hCG of 8.  He said I wasn't pregnant but I still didn't feel good about that answer so I took a FRER on Friday with a positive and like I said, today it was negative.  I am just confused. LOL

HI,
To tell you the honest truth from my own experiences, it really doesn't matter which method you use.  The only difference I can see is if you don't use midstream you have more control with the amount of urine you use to saturate the stick, and therefore preventing oversaturation.  But I myself have done it both ways on eack one of my pregnancies, and it really hasn't made any difference.  If you use a cup, make sure that it is clean and dry to prevent any chemicals that may be in the cup because I know that some chemicals (I can't think of them off the top of my head) do affect the result.  The reason why I know this is because I just found out that I am pregnant about 2 weeks ago now, and for some reason COULD NOT BELIEVE IT (and still cannot get myself to believe it for some odd reason)...so I did ALOT of research about false positive and false negative resulting.  You should wait a couple of more days, I would say wednesday, take your first morning urine (it contains the most concentrated amount of HCG) and retest.  When are/were you due to start your period?  If you are overdue, then by then definately it should be pretty accurate.  If it's negative, and you are still suspecting that you are pregnant, then definately make a doctor's appointment, and have a blood test done.  Any doctor can order this test.

Good luck!
Tara
