I'm having a hard time deciding on epidural or not. How so you ladies feel about it? Mostly every narcotic makes me sick so idk my.friend said she was fine when she had hers. Opinions?

I took a baby class and they tell you the different types of pain meds for labor and how they are done. With an epi they use that needle to put a catheter (tube that will pump the medicine into you) into your spine. They aren't 100% either. Some girls have given birth with only half of their bodies numbed. But some people say its amazing. Just depends on your experience. A few girls I know who've had it say that the spot where the tube was put in thir backs still hurts from time to time. It can also slow down labor and babies heart beat. I'm going as natural as I can. Lol

I had one withy first (9 years ago) no issues no cath and walked an hour after labor, the nurse just walked with me. Really in the end its all up to you and how much pain you can tolerate. Everybody has a different experience with them I will get another one because I'm a wimp when it comes to pain.

I had a natural birth with my first in the hospital. You just have to have a plan for coping with the pain and your nurses and doctors need to understand your preference. An epidural may make you feel better, but it can slow your labor and also has some dangerous side effects (although rare). Whatever you choose, take charge of your birth. Be informed. If you like tp read and you have time before your birth, I would suggest "The thinking woman's guide to a better birth" and "Ina May's guide to childbirth". Also, the business of being born is a fantastic movie. It is amazing to see how calm) mothers are when they trust their body. I hope you have a wonderful birth - it will change your life :)

I did it natural twice. And I will do it natural again. I have an awesome birthing coach( my girls' godmom) and she doesn't let me forget why I chose natural in my moments of weakness when i say I want an epidural. She's like no you don't silly girl! Lol and I'm like oh yeah no I don't want one! Haha. After all the pain of childbirth once I see that baby I feel like fcking superwoman. It's the most empowering feeling ever! I wish every mom could experience it although I know some can't for medical reasons :)

I had an epidural (emergency c section) and never felt sick in the slightest. They do put a catheder in but its not uncomfortable, I had no idea they put it in until they came in to remove it. And yes they make you stay in bed until it has for sure worn off, the morning after I had my daughter, I was made to get up and walk around, shower, etc. The epidural was a must for me because, let's face it, I'm a wimp when it comes to pain and the contractions (that didn't even register on the monitor) already had me bawling. You may wind up changing your mind when labor really starts, especially if you can't stand pain.

What i did with the epidural I went in with an open mind. Do the same! Just go in there saying if I need it I'll get it. I think thats the best option. Because if you go in saying you wont and the pain is unbearable you wont forgive yourself. Or if u go in saying u will you might get it when really you dont need it. Go in with an open mind :)

with my first baby i had an epidural, and i regret it. i guess for some women you only end up getting pain relief on one side of the body for me it was my left side. the right side of my body felt every contraction and the pain was almost unbearable. im having my second baby in september and decided on a natural birth no pain meds what so ever. i dont want to have to go through that kind of pain again, its not nice knowing what the pain relief feels like but only having it on the one side of yoir body. good luck tho, every women is diffrent so  you dont really know how your body will react till your there. hope your labour and delivery goes smooth!

Some hospitals have the epidural you can walk around with..doesn't hurt to ask yours. mine unfortunately didn't. i didn't want one either but i didn't have a supportive husband when i went in. ended up getting it but still felt all the contractions started working after i had my son. its whatever you want hun if you go in and feel like you want it then get it.

Only you can decide what's best for you and your baby. I've chosen a natural birth at a birthing center because any medication you receive also goes to baby and a lot of baby's have really bad reactions to epidurals and end up with a Csection. I would just do lotssss of research on the pros and cons of each. Good luck (:

Make sure you're 100% sure you  wanna choose narcotics over epidural @mizy_g you will feel all loopy..the epidural will just numb your bottom half, you'll still be aware of everything but if you choose narcotics you might not be and they make you sleepy :/ my sister did not like the narcotics at all! Just wanted to share that with you

There is this documentary by Riki Lake called The Business of Being Born. If u are on the fence about epidural or natural birth watch this movie. Very informative and really opens your eyes to the birthing process in america. I'm a ftm and want to birth naturally but I know its a whole other game once it actually starts happening. Its on Netflix so its easy to find but it really helped me decide on the natural route amd even convinced my BD too! Good luck mommies and congrats on all your little miracles

How you feel now about the epidural might change once you're actuallly in labor. I told myself I would try all natural if not then hold of as long as I could. The day I went into labor I was only feelin discomfort then out of no where my water broke and within a half hour my contractions were so painful I couldn't take it. I chose the epidural. As for the cathedor, in my opinion wasn't even bad. I didn't feel them inserting it or nothing. It didn't bother me at all! Lol anyways good luck hopefully you ladies have a stronger will and can hold of longer or even go without the epidural! I give props to the woman that do all natural births! I don't know how they do it.

My epidural was a life saver. Kudos to anyone who goes all natural! It hurt like hell before I got one. The catheter is nothing to worry about at all!!

This my 3rd baby since 2011. Everytime i got the epidural and it helped me tramendisly!! Yeah they put a cath in but u dont feel it and they take it out when your delivering and they take out the epidural after delivery and in most cases you can be up and walking to the bathroom on your own within an hour after removal. Im positive i will get the epidural for this delivery too

only you can decide am the thing is you won't know until you're in labour and know how you are coping with the pain. i planned on a water birth with only gas and air. the gas and air made me vomit and i ended up getting an epidural cause they had to do an emergency c section. it wasn't bad i didn't feel the needle and didn't even notice them put the Catheter in, it gets taken out next day. yeah you can't move the day you get it til it wears off but it gave me chance to recoverx

A cathader is a thing they put inside you to collect your urine... Cause you can't walk after you get an epidural

That's the only reason I'm hesitant to get an epidural. Imma try natural if its to much then I'll get one lol
