Agreed ^^^^ I have never had to strike my dogs. A simple sound or even a look and they know. Dominant downs are how I discipline but that was  way before I was pregnant and it was done as soon as the dogs entered my home and tried to show dominance. I am grateful that all of the hard work I put into my dogs shows, because I'm 31 weeks pregnant and there is no room for "issues" when I can barely bend over.

Like I said, my female pit is very protective, follows me, watches me, watches other people around me, but it is indeed controlled. I never even once had any concern for my unborn child because I know my dogs know their place in rank in the house. You don't have to train your dog to be a protector, a dog that is loyal, no matter what breed, will watch over you.

That "fighting" to get next you with your toddler is the dog doing what comes natural to her, establishing that she out ranks your son. Im dead serious when I said to nip it in the A** now, and not by putting fear of hitting the dog, but doing training to where the dog respects you and knows her place. So you don't even have to worry about your unborn child

I would get into obedience training if you can. Hitting a dog or raising your hand doesnt show dominance, it shows fear which will not always be an effective method, any dog train will tell you that. You need to learn how to assert dominance in terms of pack behavior because no matter how much we try to humanize dogs in our minds, they are dogs and the best way to train them is using their natural socialization cues. And im not just saying this because your dogs a pitbull, I feel this way about every dog breed and I own a pitbull and think they are great dogs. but ibedience training is essential in a home with children.

He's showing his love yes by being affectionate and waiting for you and laying with you . But when it comes to any dog nibbling that shouldn't be allowed . Because you will discipline him if he bites but not if he nibbles he will be confused because it wasn't corrected when the issue was just .

I have a blue nose pitbull also and every since I've been prengant he acts the same way I I get up he gets up if I go to the bathroom he lays outside the door same as te shower if someone he doesn't know gets to close hell let them know . He's grey with kids and baby's but they can sense Taft you are prengant it's just a instinct of THIER . When I sleep he has to be cruled up next to me or next to my belly Ill be 10 weeks Friday . But same goes for everything else . It's just then showing the love and protection for us and are little ones :)

Well, if you feel you have it under control....but hitting the dog isn't always effective, and nibbling isn't a desired behavior and probably shouldn't be encouraged, especially to a toddler.

You have to teach her that your son is allowed to sit next to you...or she will think she is more dominant than him and that will be a problem. I have two Pits, and my female is very protective of me, but I know when to make her take it down a notch. Because your son cant reprimand her for her actions, you must and do it soon. If she tries to wedge herself in between you and your son, you need to make her move. She needs to know that it is not okay. It's great that she may sense your pregnant and that she wants to protect you but within a controlled way, or in the long run it will be out of control. It's not cute....and it wont be if she hurts your son battling for what she thinks is getting her higher up on the totem pole of the "pack"

Pit Bulls are great dogs and I have always owned them, but they can be over protective and they are strong dogs. Nip it in the a** now.

You may find that she will be protective of the baby as well, at the moment she probably senses that something isn't quite right with you (ie that you're different than what she is used to)     I have a German Shepherd who is only 12 months - warly on in my pregnancy she didn't really act any different but as my bump got huge, she started acting differently.    If we were out walking and I trailed too far behind her and BD (and I'm only talking about 10-15 feet behind them) she would keep looking behind her to make sure I was there and would usually stop and refuse to move until I had caught up with her.    We went for a walk when I was 41+4 and I was having some pretty painful labour pains (I had a 6 day stop-start labour, it was horrendous)  and kept having to stop and bend over and breathe theough the contractions and she would not move from my side, if we went out anywhere and a strange male she had never met before walked towards us, even if he was only passing, she would not move from my side despite her normally running about like the puppy that she is x
