HELP!!! HCG almost 8000 BEFORE 5 weeks???

Hello all!

I am so worried! I am currently 5w1d pregnant but had a beta drawn at 4w4d that came back at 4,348 and another at 4w6d that came back at 7,925! The levels are doubling normally but are incredibly high according to every chart I've seen (which is a lot as I've been googling obsessively all day). I had an U/S at 4w6d but only saw one gestational sac and nothing else which didn't worry me as it was so early but I feel like that, plus the fact that twins aren't on either me or my husbands side probably rules out the idea of multiples. Everything I've read says that high hcg can mean molar pregnancy or down's syndrome.

Can anyone please tell me if this is normal or not? Have you (or anyone you know) been in a similar situation and what was the outcome?

Usually their first thought is a molar pregnancy.. They wouldn't have a way of telling by that first Ultrasound because you were too early to see anything anyway but by next week they should be able to tell for sure because by then their should be a yolk sac and embryo.. Did they schedule you for a follow up ultrasound?!  It can be normal though.. I just recently scanned a pt (i'm an ultrasound tech) that had extremely high levels and it turned out she had a normal singleton pregnancy at the time of the ultrasound.  It too was her follow up because the first ultrasound their was still an empty sac.  So I would try and relax until they re check you.  it isn't always bad!

Thanks for your response.
Yes, they scheduled me to return 10 days later so that they can hear a HB. But the doctor insisted that everything "looked great!". So much so, as a matter of fact, that he had originally been planning to send me back for more blood work and after getting my labs and U/S report he cancelled them all and when I objected, he was like "well... if you REALLY feel like you need this for peace of mind, I guess there's no harm but it's really not necessary" so I dropped the subject. It wasn't until I got home that actually began comparing numbers and realized that mine were so incredibly high.

Is there a reason he wouldn't have mentioned it? Is that typical of OB's, in order to prevent the woman from panicking/stressing??

I don't think you should worry yourself too much until your doc says you have reason to worry, but don't feel bad calling your doc and asking questions, it is what they are there for.

Not according to any of the HCG charts for multiples i've seen. I seem to be even on the high end of those and am even exceeding some of them. I don't think that 93,000 sounds unusually high for a singleton at 7 weeks. That means that: at 6w5d you were about 46-47k and at 6w3d around 23k. At the rate I'm doubling I will be where you were at 6 weeks 3 days pregnant when i'm 5 weeks 2 days which is tomorrow!

I'm not saying it's multiples, I'm just wondering if means I should be concerned.

Thats honestly still kind of low for multiples. At 7. Weeks my hcg was about 93,000 and i just had my baby 2 days ago. Only one :). Lol

Thanks for answering and congratulations on your pregnancy! =D

I understand what you're saying but even though your levels were high, they still fell into the "normal" range while at the rate I'm going, I'll be over 30,000 by sunday which will be 5w3d. Isn't that unusual??

my doctor has never even checked my hcg levels that I'm aware of lol he just orders an ultrasound for everything, so I think you're good :)

Wow!! That would be a welcome surprise. I guess I'm pessimistic but it seems too good to be true and that it's more likely that something is wrong.  =(

Sorry, I didn't tell you my outcome, I'm currently 17 weeks and so far there's just 1 and everything seems fine :) it's hard to tell anything by looking at hcg levels except that you are pregnant and they are doubling nicely :)

At 6weeks my hcg levels were just under 32000 and my doctor wasn't concerned he didn't even mention it

sometimes twins that share the same sac hide behind each other, so it may be that and it's just too early to tell :)
