The chances of complications are rare with inductions. Don't let people scare you. I've been induced with all my kids and know plenty of people who have as well. All of us delivered vaginaly with no complications. I'm actually getting induced Monday with this one. However if this is your first baby they will not induce you at 39 weeks unless there is a medical reason.
You can ask for a stretch and sweep. I've had one done 3 out of 4 births at 38 wks. Worked like a charm. The least I was dilated was 2cm. Worked within hrs to a day and a half. But I also had lots of sex right after to thin cervix and bring on contractions
Actually complications are not rare. They are fairly common. The risk of c section does go up but isn't always th main complication. Sometimes it depends on how they induce, whether it's the gel, breaking your water, pitocin, etc. When your body is forced into labor before baby is ready then it can cause complications. I'm not trying to scare you, it's just the truth. It may depend on where you live, what the OB does, and hospital policy because thing like at our hospital if your water breaks you have to have your baby in 24 hours, sometimes that doesn't cause contractions which leads to induction of pitocin and can cause the contractions to come very fast and hard and sometimes too fast that it puts baby in distress. It's a real thing. Everyone should know the risks of induction if not medically necessary. Induction rates have gone up along with c section rates. That's just facts. At least in the area of the US I'm from.I'm not at all trying to scare you. Induction can be good if you are 42 weeks and no baby, have pre eclampsia, have any medical problem with baby. We are lucky to have these things. Always talk to your doctor and do your own research with valid sources. You will be okay. Baby will be okay. In the end you will have a beautiful blessing.
Possibility of a c section goes up when getting induced.
What complications will come with it ?
I just had my 39 week appointment yesterday & I asked & she's gonna induce Tuesday & I never had anything happen till last night finally lost my mucus plug which I didn't think was gonna happen
Most likely not, which is good. More complications can come from being induced than letting baby decide when to come on their own.
Sadly, probably not till you reach 40wks+. He may book an induction... but it will be well into your 41st week unless there are any complications/changes.
Thats policy here anyway.
