What are cavitated pulmonary modules?

Hello. My dad has recently had a CT scan. He received a letter the other day saying they have found multiple small pulmonary modules, some of which have cavitated in his Chest, Abdomen and Pelvis and with the possibility of malignancy. I am just wondering that due to them being in the main three areas of his body whether this is likely to be cancer as it seems to be the way it has spread. We are off to the hospital on 4th May but unsure if this appointment is related to the above. Any feedback would be appreciated as I would just like to prepare myself for when we go. He lives 140 miles away from me so travelling quite far to make the appointment.
He also has portal vein thrombosis. How serious is this?
Many thanks.

Pulmonary cavitary lesions may be the result of cancer, infection, inflammation, or less likely congenital. For more information, please see: https://radiopaedia.org/articles/pulmonary-cavitation
