I can't get a full breath :(

Hi everyone,

I am brand new to this community, but am desperate for some answers.  I have been suffering for months now with shortness of breath.  I am obviously getting enough oxygen as I haven't passed out or anything, but everyday I struggle to get a full satisfying breath.  I can best describe it as a tightness in my chest that is always there and when I try to breathe I can only get about 3/4 of a full breath... it is incredibly annoying and is making me concerned that I might have some sort of repiratory problem.  I've been to a pulmonolgist and they said my blood oxygen level was fine.

A little of my background:  I am a 25 year old female, 138 pounds and 5 foot 7, so not really overweight.  I have been recently tested for asthma and do not have it.  I have IgA Deficiency which my doctor said was not a huge deal other than it puts me at a higher risk of developing baterial infections. I have been diagnosed with panic disorder resulting from post traumatic stress and have been seeing a psychiatrist and a pscyhologist for several months now.  They say I am making great progress and with the combination of cognitive behaviorial therapy and anixety medication I no longer suffer panick attacks.  I also have been told I have acid relfux but that has been undercontrol as I take aciphex.

I am so tired of not being able to get a satisfying breath... does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?  I think my next step might be to mark into the ER and tell them I'm having shortness of breath and I want a chest xray.  Maybe I have some sort of fluid in my lungs... who knows.

Please help, I can't live like this for every :(

Thank you!
Katie

The Yog Pranayam (breathing exercises) will  help you relax and also help with the breathing difficulties. You will notice benefits in days.
Initially do kapalbhati for 5 to 30 strokes, to remove stale air from the lungs, and see how you feel.
Then when your breathing improves, do all the the pranayams in order, as described. Come back to report your progress, so others can benefit.
Build up your timing gradually. If you feel tired or dizzy, stop and resume after 1 minute.

Bhastrika - Take a long deep breath into the lungs(chest not tummy) via the nose and then completely breathe out through the nose. Duration upto 5 minutes.
For 30 seconds, while doing bhastrika, also raise both your hands above your shoulders when breathing in and then bring your hands down quickly(like a weight lifting movement) when breathing out.

Kapalbhati -(Do it before eating) Push air forcefully out through the nose about once per second. Stomach will itself go in(contract in). The breathing in(through the nose) will happen automatically. Establish a rhythm and hold your head steady. Not for pregnant women. Seriously ill people do it gently.
Age over 15 years -do this for 20 to 30  minutes twice a day.
Age under 15 years -do this for 5 to 10  minutes twice a day.

Anulom Vilom –
Close your right nostril with thumb and deep breath-in through left nostril
then – close left nostril with two fingers and breath-out through right nostril
then -keeping the left nostril closed  deep breath-in through right nostril
then - close your right nostril with thumb and breath-out through left nostril.
This is one cycle of anulom vilom.
Age over 15 years -Repeat this cycle for 20 to 30  minutes twice a day.
Age under 15 years -Repeat this cycle for 5 to 10  minutes twice a day.
You can do this before breakfast/lunch/dinner or before bedtime or in bed.Remember to take deep long breaths into the lungs. You can do this while sitting on floor or chair or lying in bed.

Bhramri Pranayam -Close eyes. Close ears with thumb, index finger on forehead, and rest three fingers on base of nose touching eyes. Breathe in through nose. And now breathe out through nose while humming like a bee.
Duration : 5 to 12  times

Once you are better, continue the pranayam once a day.
Be patient, as the benefits will show up gradually.Only by doing you will benefit and feel good because you are helping your body. Those who say I have tried everything....
will be amazed at the result of doing pranayam.
