Unable to Breathe while crying

My Grandchild is 2 years old and has done the following a few times. it does not happen all the time when he cries, but when he is very upset he begins to cry and then has trouble breathing, at first when he was less than a year old. it lasted only a few seconds, the few times  the breathless period is getting longer and longer and has resulted in longer periods of non breathing, the last one he turned blue and collapsed. it seems that during the cry he is unable to breathe, and it is lasting longer each time....is there a breathing disorder that I am not aware of ???....I will let his doctor know on his next visit or is this just a tantrum...

This happened with both our boys and is sometimes called apnea of crying. Most seem to outgrow it. I posted a lot of information about it that you can read here. Hope it's helpful to you!

I have a 9 month old that is expeiencing a similar issue. Whenever he becomes really upset he starts what we thought was breath holding at first, we then realized he was actually stopping breathing. It last for few seconds at a time but can go on for hours. We took him to the doctor while it was happening and she didn't know what it was. They gave us a consult to a neurologist, who ran an EEG, which found nothing but ruled out seizures. We are hoping he grows out of it soon.
