how long it will take to recover from

this is tenth day my son who is 14 year old is suffering with fever . at the begging he was not coughing . no sneezing,no sore throat. on the third day walk in doctor said its only a flu. no infection.so just lots of fluids and advil plus over the counter cold and flu medcation .. he took for seven days .but fever is still above 100 f .and also started coughing now . then i went to my family doctor to consult. he took x rays and told me he probabley has pnemonia . my doctor prescribed him Novo-Azithromysin 250 mg . my son already took 2 doses so far but fever is still above 100 and also he feels more weak and sleepy. doesn;t want to eat anything . . is this happen with this madication.and how long it will take to recover . Please tell me at what time i have to take him to hospital. and please tell me is this normal condition ??

thank you for answer. this  is his eleventh day now . today he is feeling much better. no fever since last night. today he took third dose of novo-azithromycin . but now noticeed he lost his appitite. is this normal after recovery. he is also complaing about gas in stomoch like burping. should i still take him to Er .my family doctor  follow up appt is on tuesday after five days . can he take a shower if he doest have fever. please reply me soon. thanks again.

Yes, your son could have a pneumonia.  IF you are not content with what your physician has recommended go to the ER.  Pneumonia can be viral or bacteria.  If it is viral then the antibiotic will not do anything for the virus.  However, having a fever this high and long deserves more investigation like blood cultures or sputum sample.  I would continue to call family doctor or go to ER.  Good luck.  Thank you for your question.
