hi was just wondering if any one knows what it means in pft tests what fev1 2.5 76% and fvc 2.9 74% tell u if it is saying you have got copd or emphysema could somone please help me with these readings thank you

hi mrs cuz i got the readings wrong his fev1 is 2.5 70% and fvc is 2.9 and 65%and his pefr is 554 could u tell me if that is much different to the readings i gave u before

As i've said it is impossible to diagnose a condition so i cant say yes you have copd or emphysema or no you dont have them. All i can say is there doesnt seem to be any serious affect on your lung function.

Hi, PFTs are not diagnostic investigations. They cannot tell you if you have a specific condition. They are only an aid to diagnosis and need to be looked at in conjunction with any other test you have had done such as x-rays, ct scans, bloods etc. What they can tell you is 76% is a very mild reduction in FEV1 and 74% again is a very mild reduction in FVC (80-120% is normal). They dont appear to be reduced by terribly much so nothing for you to be overly concerned with. I am a respiratory clinical physiologist and do pfts on people every day. Hope this helps.
