Herpes?

Ok, so I had a tiny little white bump (like a grain of sand) on my shaft.  It was tender to the touch, but never bothered me.  It had been there for a couple months.  I didn't think much of it.  I had sex with my girlfriend for quite a long time one night and when I got up in the morning the "grain" was gone and it had formed into a little red bump.  I messed with the bump and it got bigger.  I was able to squeeze some stringy, white puss out of it.  After popping it, it just stayed the same size.  It has been 8 days and it is not an open sore and it does not scab over.  It has decreased in size and is just gradually going away.  Hydrocortizone cream tends to help, but obviously not enough to make it go away.  It just looks like a pinkish colored slightly raised circle now, almost like scar tissue.  There is only the one bump that has formed.  It is only maybe 3mm diameter.  I'm just worried, because its been there for 8 days now.  Anybody have an opinion on what this could be.
