Gono

Hi everyone, I wanted some information that I can't understand about gonorrhea, when it is contracted orally, is it true that it heals on its own? does it heal without consequences? I haven't had any throat symptoms but I did the test just to be sure, not sure how they did it in my opinion they didn't get to the bottom of the tonsil in case I repeat? thank you so much guys

There is some thought among experts that it can clear on it's own.

However, it's not something I'd rely on for myself. If I thought I had oral gonorrhea, I'd go get tested and if positive, I'd get treatment. Gonorrhea can cause complications, and I'd rather err on the side of caution.

Oh on your test - where did they culture? Was it a throat swab? It should have felt similarly to a throat culture for strep or something.

I found this with instructions for how they collect the specimen for an oral gono test - https://testdirectory.questdiagnostics.com/test/test-detail/70051/chlamydianeisseria-gonorrhoeae-rna-tma-throat?cc=MASTER

Did they do that?

Did you give oral sex to a penis? Is that what you're concerned about?
thank you very much, yes I did that, I did all the tests and I tested negative for everything, 3 months have passed and I have had no symptoms, now I have the doubt that the test was done badly! Is it that easy to take?
I also had a negative urethral swab! If I had contracted it orally would it be seen with a urethral swab?
No, if you had oral gonorrhea, it would not be caught on a genital test.

Gonorrhea isn't nearly as common as chlamydia, and if you've had no symptoms at 3 months, I wouldn't worry. Oral sex is lower risk than vaginal or anal sex. If you need to go get another throat swab at a different location to put your mind at ease, do that, but that would be for peace of mind, not because you're at any real risk.
I'm Italian, if I weren't far away I'll prepare you an Italian dinner to thank you for what you do! I will definitely repeat the test for everyone's safety!
You're welcome, and if you weren't so far away, I'd take you up on that Italian dinner, for sure!

Take care. :)
