How long after getting treatment for gonorrhea(throat infection) can I get retested with clear results?

I recently tested positive for pharyngeal gonorrhea and I received my antibiotic injection as well.  The doctor said it would take about 7 days for it to work its magic.  When I called the clinic to see when was the soonest I could get retested to see if I was in the clear of the infection, and they told me no sooner than 1 month, but 3 months was better.  I was wondering if anyone had more insight into this?  I feel like if I have to wait 3 months to get retested, I wont want to be sexually active again until I know for sure it's gone, even though the doctor said after 7 days I could be sexually active.  Help?

Ooo ok thank you very much.  It was an oral infection only.

Did you test for gonorrhea of the gentials? If you are clear there then you can have sex at anytime, but for oral you would need to wait the 7 days.
To retest the waiting period is normally 1 month. 3 months seems to be a little long because in 1 month after the medication has finished it should be out of your system.
