Red dry patch on head of penis? Looking for insight

I had a dry red spot on the head of my penis. I noticed it on a Saturday afternoon and now has been greatly reduced and almost healed as of Wednesday afternoon. It was never itchy, no bumps, no scabs, no puss, didn't hurt, wasn't raised, ....just a dry spot.
I haven't had sex recently ( I know that doesn't really matter with stds). I did a little research online and it doesn't sound like herpes nor did it look like any pictures that I say of genital herpes. And it has healed quite quickly.
What it might be is Balanitis from what I read. I have been putting on Canesten on it a few times a day.
Does this sound like Balanitis to anyone else?
BTW I am uncircumsized and am more prone to that from what I read.
Any opinions would be appreciated.

Thank you for the input. It is almost completely gone this morning. The area is completely smooth just a little pinkish now. I will still go and see a doc I think.

Hi, no std has symptoms like a red patch including herpes but would fit into the fungal catagory which includes Balanitis. If its not clearing up talk to your pharmisist about some other cream options or have a doc check you out.
