Help!

My now ex and I started to have sex around February 7th of this year and it was always unprotected. Our last encounter was June 2nd. I was tested for Hep A, B, and C, Syphillis, HIV, Chlamydia, Gonnorhea, and HSV 1 and 2 igG and igm on July 16th. They all came back negative. I have no symptoms by the way. Can I be sure I don't have anything? I was kinda worried about the window periods, but our initial encounter was in Feb. Is this just my anxiety acting up?

Driving myself crazy.

Thank you! Not gonna get anymore testing since I've already tested negative on all tests and I have no symptoms.  Thank you again!

80-90% of the time, the HSV IgG test is positive by 6 weeks, so your result is highly reassuring. But it can take up to 4 months. Still, the overall chance you caught HSV2 is extremely low. In addition to the negative blood test at 6 weeks, you have had no symptoms, you don't even known your former partner is infected, and even if he was, the chance of transmission is only around once for every 1,000 episodes of unprotected vaginal sex. Taking all that into account, there's probably less than 1 in a million chance you have it. That's why STD and herpes experts would never have recommended testing at all.

In other words, you are indeed "going overboard".  But if you need the extra reassurance of yet another blood test, you'll have to do it 4 months after your last sexual contact.

So I thought the window period began after your initial contact, not last. I don't believe he was unfaithful to me, but I still have my concerns. There are so many horror stories on the net about herpes and false negatives. Although I tested negative on both igm and igG tests, I'm still a tad concerned. My scoring was 0.2 on igm and 0.11 and 0.13 on HSV 1 and 2 igG test. Those window periods are really freaking me out. I tested 6 weeks after our last encounter. But if he did have herpes, wouldn't antibodies have shown up by now from our initial encounter? Sorry if I'm going overboard. I suffer from anxiety.

Your doctor was right in her initial advice. It's the same policy at most STD clinics, although most would also do syphilis and HIV tests as baseline (to make sure you didn't have them before the exposure) -- but no other testing in this situation.

You're actually not beyond some of the window periods, especially HSV (4 months). But I don't recommend you do anything about it.

Thank you! I was just concerned about those window periods. My doctor told me that she would only test for Chlamydia and Gonnorhea first and if one of those came back positive, she would do all other tests. I insisted on getting tested for everything at once since I had never been tested for stds before. I appreciate you answering. Just wanted to be reassured that my negative results weren't false negatives because of those window periods.

You were seriously overtested, based on the exposures described. (STD clinics never do so much testing!) In any case, your test results are valid and show you didn't catch any of those infections -- and this seems like a low risk exposure anyway. You needn't be at all worried and don't need further testing.
