Ovulation question, Please help

My boyfriend and I were just wondering if its possible to ovulate even though Iam on the Pill becuase my wetness was showing indications that Iam ovulating. There was lots, and it was thick and clear/lilwhite. I read that those were signs of ovulation. Is there a chance to get pregnant if we have sex? Thanks

I think it probably differs from pill to pill and from woman to woman, so the majority of women don't ovulate, some may do randomly, and you may if you miss pills or don't take it correctly generally.
Its always a good idea to use condoms too if you don't want to get pregnant (plus they protect against STDs).
But, as kim said above, if you ARE trying to concieve then you need to stop taking the pill :)

no! you said "So I was right? lol women dont ovulate when on the pill, if taken correctly. Thats what I thought cuz then they would get pregnant if an egg is released and sperm contacts it-
"Primarily, the Pill works by stopping ovulation (the release of an egg from the ovary). If an egg is not released then of course conception cannot take place"

no you can ovualte when your on the pill. thats why its possible to get pregnant on the pill

and once again you talked about how you mentioned to your gf that if you wanted to get pregnant this would be a good time.....but even if you wanted to...you shouldnt and couldnt try to get pregnant at that time. because shes on the pill

I was just explaining to my gf that If we wanted to get pregs then this would be a good time to, cuz I thought she was ovulating cuz of the obvious signs. but as smeeo says it was just probably thick mucus at the cervix casued by the pill so sperm cant get thru.

"As a back-up, the Pill also makes the mucus released by the cervix thicker so the sperm cannot get through and thins the lining of the uterus so a fertilised egg has difficulty implanting."

Thank you Smeeo for making that very clear.

Just wanted to add that of course this doesn't mean that you can't get pregnant whilst taking the pill as Kim said. It does happen, usually because people don't take it correctly (miss pills etc). :)

"The two hormones in the combined oral contraceptive pill, oestrogen and progestogen work on several levels to prevent pregnancy. Primarily, the Pill works by stopping ovulation (the release of an egg from the ovary). If an egg is not released then of course conception cannot take place. As a back-up, the Pill also makes the mucus released by the cervix thicker so the sperm cannot get through and thins the lining of the uterus so a fertilised egg has difficulty implanting."

Therefore, surely if you're on the pill you do not ovulate (If it is taken correctly). This information above backs up what I have read about the pill (I myself have been taking it for around 4 years now) and what my GP has told me, Also, if you get a period when on the pill it does not mean you have ovulated... it is a withdrawal bleed...

"The rapid decline in the artificial hormones which occurs in the pill-free interval results in a 'withdrawal bleed', which somewhat resembles a menstrual period and is often still referred to as a 'period' for simplicity. It is important, however, for women to understand that when they take the Pill the bleeding which occurs during the pill free interval is not a menstrual period." - taken from the same webpage.

but you said that you relized that was a sign or something and you said if she wanted to....it would be a good time to get pregnant!

if she gets a period...she ovulated. you ovualte when on the pill. it doenst stop an egg from getting released. you can get pregnant while on the pill though. it doesn happen. not a lot but it has happend

Oh yeah I know abt that, we dont plan to have a baby. thats the reason shes on birth control. Just kinda cunfused how birth control really worked. All I knew was that it prevents pregnancy and that its a form of family planing like u said. I wasnt sure if it stops the sperm from fertilizing the egg or it stops the egg from coming out of the falopian tube. But now its more clear. I learned all this b4, but I tend to forget. Thanks though

YOU OUVLATE WHEN ON THE PILL! I DONT KNO WHERE YOU TWO GOT THE IMPRESSION YOU DONT OVULATE WHEN YOU TAKE THE PILL! you two are VERY confused when it comes to birth control

"Birth control, sometimes synonymous with contraception, is a regimen of one or more actions, devices, or medications followed in order to deliberately prevent or reduce the likelihood of pregnancy or childbirth. "Contraception" may refer specifically to mechanisms that are intended to reduce the likelihood of a sperm cell fertilizing the egg. Birth control is commonly used as part of family planning."

if you two want to have a baby she needs to GETT OFF BIRTH CONTROL. DO NOT...try to have a baby while taking birth control

I just wanted to follow up on the question that my girlfriend was asking. I was kinda confused abt the ovulation thing cuz my gf was saying abt her wetness and i realized that its a sign of ovulation and I told her that, and I told her how I read it a good time to get prego if we wanted to, so then she asked even if shes on birthcontol. I didnt know the answer to that so we decided to ask. but anyway, how is it possible to ovulate when on birth control if it prevents the egg from being released and being fertilixzedd. Iam so confused abt that part, could sum1 please explain. thanks
