hypoventilation at night

I am 44 yrs old and have a mito. myopathy ( confirmed by muscle bx) with proximal & resp. muscle weakness( restricitve lung disease with MIP and MEp 17%,21%). I had a sleep study earlier this year that confirmed hypoventilation at night with elevated CO2 (52%). I was placed on a cpap but have been unable to tolerate this. I cannot go to sleep with it on and if I do get to sleep, I take it off in 1-2 hrs. I was seeing someone in the sleep clinic but he moved to another state. I saw a NP who prescribed restoril but it has not helped at all.
I know I need to use the cpap . My RVEF is beginning to decline and my pulmonologist says if the sleep issues are not treated, this will only get worse.
I am quite discouraged and not sure what to do. Do you have any suggestions on what I can do? I know I have a complicated medical hx but need help with this issue.
Thank you.

I was told the events were all obstructive hypopnea events.

Do you have central or obstructive sleep apnea?

There are various reasons to use BiPAP over CPAP, and there are other more sophisticated variations of xPAP devices. It really depends on your particular situation which only your sleep doctor can fully determine.

I wanted to add that during the sleep study, my breathing was actually worse on my side. I have the shortness of breath and air hunger sensations when lying down. At my titration study, I was actually able to go to sleep with the cpap on and slept for 5-6 hrs.
But that was the only time that has happened.
Also, what is your take on using cpap instead of bipap in NMD? I have read that use of cpap can actually make things worse in NMD.
