I also had a stroke 3 years ago, and now am having trouble swallowing.  My gastro specialist says that I need an endoscopy to "dilate" or stretch my esphagus, because she is concerned about my pills, etc sticking in my throat and causing more inflammation.  I had acid reflux before my stroke.

But could the same procedure help you and Sue?  It doesn't hurt and you're completely out during the procedure because I had it done about 10 years ago.

Hi,
When I was in rehab they taught me to eat smaller pieces off food, and to eat slowly  I'm 15+ years out, but I still have difficulty with small pasta, rice and corn.  Aside from slowing down I also have to lower my chin when I swallow; and for a time I had to use a product to thicken whatever I was drinking.  (I can't tell you how many times I've "worn" coffee - or whatever from coughing like crazy!  Humor helps.)
Take care,
Sue
