Waking up with headaches, stiff neck, and severe jaw popping.

My jaw has been popping since I was in middle school and I'm now in my 3rd year of high school-I'm 16. My dentist just told me that I have severe TMJ. It used to be that only the left side of my jaw pops. But recently it has gotten even worse. Now both sides pop, crack, catch, anything you can think of. Sometimes I have to completely stop eating because I just can't. There isn't much pain, but since it has gotten worse, my jaw just aches and feels tired and worn out ALL the time. My neck is always stiff, this whole week I've been waking up with headaches. Certain sounds hurt my ears, sometimes I get a ringing in my ears. I've tried staying away from chewy foods, but the other day I was eating pancakes and yogurt and my jaw starting popping. I've also tried taking tylenol for the pain, but it doesn't work at all. After years of this going on, I'm really getting sick of it.

What can I do? I ask my orthodontist every time, but he never does anything. My regular dentist said he was going to call a specialist but never did. I imagine he just forgot. I'm not sure what else to do. Any help?? Ideas??

Thanks in advance.

Try putting ice on your face.  That kind of numbs it.  Also, try 3 Advil (300 mg. each) and make sure you get enough sleep.  Try to relax the jaw and mouth.

You might have something else going on in your neck.  Your regular doctor can check that out, or you can try an orthopedic or rheumatologist.  They can order x-rays.  Physical therapy might help.
