Acetyl L carntine for thyroid related neuropathies?

Hey guys I was wondering if anyone that has suffered neuropathies such as carpal tunnel due to unresolved thyroid issues (or neuropathy unrelated to thyroid) have tried Acetyl L carnitine and if it has worked succesfully? I read people have good results from it but that people that are hypo thyroid should avoid it because it effects the thyroid hormones. But if I'm taking thyroid meds (in this case armour) would it be ok to take? I'm mainly interested if anyone has tried this supplement.
and on a related note, for those with thyroid related neuropathies how long after treating your condition did they subside or are neuropathies caused by hypothyroidism permanent more or less?
and once more for good measure, Neuropathies. :p
thank you all so much !

I'm actually on 15mg of armour (1/4grain?) after about a month and a half trial of 50mcg of synthroid which I can only guess crashed my adrenals? (I realize that many people and doctors don't support adrenal fatigue as a condition) my levels went a little bit over and my tsh having risen even more instead of being too low (if I were to haven been hyper) which confused the doctor.
I had to stop the synthroid because I couldn't handle the heart palp difficulty breathing and insomnia which led me worse off than before i started the meds. I eventually thought of supporting my adrenals which helped immensely giving me back my sleep alot of energy and letting me breathe a little bit more normally. after testing again with no synthroid and supported adrenals I brought my levels back to normal and my tsh lower than I've ever had it at 2.55 and after mentioning adrenal fatigue my doctor started asking if I have any mental issues and that I should consider seeing a psychiatrist, which after reading all the cases of that happening to people online I was crushed -_-... (she asked me if I was hearing voices, seriously! I was honestly offended!) SHe did however gave me 15mg for armour at my request which hopefully i can tolerate now but It's still a gamble for me. I split the dose into two and take one in the morning and one in the afternoon it's only been 3 days so I dont expect anything but nothing negative so far. according to a metabolic temperature graph http://www.drrind.com/therapies/metabolic-temperature-graph my adrenal temp is pretty stable I just need a little more thyroid support.
thanks so much for your time :)

same here. I had the muscle ache in arms elbows etc and it went away when they increased my medication, then I went hyper , so I had to just have a increase a couple days a week hence it is amazing how just a little increase over time like weeks, can change that ache into nothing....so you may want to just increase your dosage just a little.i went from 88mcg to 100mcg and all the aches went away but .....now I am a little hyper after 6 weeks, which is shocking but I know 88mcg is too little....so I am assuming I will go back to 88mcg and just take 100mcg a couple days a week and see how that works....I also made a change, I started taking my meds 4 hours before eating and getting up....which give it longer to convert to t3 and that is probably why the 100mcg made my hyper bec I was taking the t4 30 minutes before eating...

We can't edit our comments once posted, so you did the right thing by adding a second comment.

I didn't answer your post earlier because although I had carpal tunnel when hypo, I have no experience with carnitine.  My carpel tunnel went away once my thyroid meds were properly adjusted, and it's never returned.

A quick google of carnitine, however, said that it may inhibit the transport of thyroid hormones into cells.  This is not something you want if you are hypo.  If thyroid hormone can't get into cells, you will feel hypo even with perfectly fine serum thyroid hormone levels.  So, no, it wouldn't be okay for you to take this.  The hormones in your Armour won't do you any good whatsoever if they can't get into cells.

If I were you, my approach would be to make sure your thyroid meds dose really is appropriate.  Please post recent labs with reference ranges if you have them.  Ranges vary lab to lab, so they have to come from your own lab report.

Also, do you have other remaining hypo symptoms?
