Are multiple aspirations of a large thyroid nodule successful?

In a prior post regarding a large thyroid cyst, Dr. Mark Lupo stated:

"Sometimes ethanol injection can be done after documenting benign cytology by FNA and re-accumulation after 2-3 drainage attempts."

Is it best to have my cyst aspirated more than once? It is a large 3.5 cm cyst on my right thyroid lobe. During my FNA biopsy 3 months ago, 30 mL of fluid aspirated. However, it filled back up within 10 days and has steadily increased in size since.

This was my only attempt to have it aspirated. I have asked my endocrinologist since whether she would aspirate it again to alleviate my symptoms and she said it would only come back. Is it a common practice to aspirate more than once, and, if so, have you seen success?

I do not want my right thyroid lobe surgically removed, so my next step is to seek ethanol ablation treatment.

Thanks,
Katie
