ah, ok that makes sense!!!!
Thank you!
Moose said it for me "associated with is not the same as caused by"...... yes, they are associated; hypothyroidism can cause GAD, not visa versa.
dreeft, I think your reading this artical the wrong way.
["Some physical health conditions are associated with anxiety. Examples include:
Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
Heart disease
Hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism
Menopause " ]
"Associated with" is not the same as "caused by". Just means the two often go hand in hand. They could have used better wording.
Gerd can be caused by thyroid and anxiety. Anxiety can be caused by thyroid, but not vice versa.
Anxiety can even be caused by low magnesium levels:
{"The body needs this particular mineral to produce adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which powers all your bodily functions and reactions. A deficiency causes ATP production to fall, and the body forms lactic acid instead. Excessive levels of lactic acid causes anxiety and irritability symptoms. The deficiency also causes signs of stress in the adrenal gland which results in physiological tension in the body. In severe cases, it may cause hyperventilation, seizures, nervous tension and panic attacks.
Magnesium is also required in the production of prostaglandin hormones which helps reduce anxiety and agoraphobia

Barb check this article out

Hypothyroidism is caused by malfunction of the thyroid, often due to Hashimoto's Thyroiditis.
GAD does not cause one to be hypo, but being hypo can cause one to have GAD. Same goes for GERD.
I'm glad that you feel well, thyroid wise, but since you still have symptoms, I have to wonder if your levels are really where you need them.
will do Barb, am bad about that I know. I guess the article I read said that hypo is related ie cause by GAD. So am thinking crap, I know I have always had GAD, and if it caused all these other things maybe I ougta get on some meds for that before I get some heard disease..
Thyroid wise I feel great tbh. I am on 50mcg.
As LM said, both GAD and GERD can be symptoms of being hypo, and are often alleviated when thyroid levels are optimal.
I don't recall seeing any blood work on you for a while. Can you post your most recent lab results, along with the reference ranges, so we can take a look and see what might be going on?
meaning those are symptos of GAD
These two symptoms can not cause hypo.
They can both be a symtom of hypo, though, not all the time.. And both can improve with corrected thyroid levels.
