I was conceived & born in Missouri...
I was also born with a goiter in 1967...It is extremely rare...When I was 7 years old I had many different doctors wanting to perform experimental surgery and treatments on me...None were allowed and I have never had anything done to my thyroid or goiter, as well as never taking any thyroid supplements...I was hyperthyroid (and sometimes normal) until I turned 43...So I was always thin (sometimes way too thin!!!) no matter what I ate or how I lived!!!
At the age of 40 I was injured in an automobile accident and off work for 18 months, as well as not allowed to go back to the job I worked for the past 15 years...This is when my thyroid decided to switch into hypo mode...Not being able to work full time and bring in my normal pay I started eating pretty poorly...Once I quit smoking I started gaining weight, became depressed and lethargic, all the hypo symptoms etc. began to hit me....
I have recently learned about goitrogens & goitrogenic foods, gluten sensitivity, selenium & transdermal iodine...I've stopped the goitrogenic foods (which I ate pretty much every day), I've gone gluten & soy free, started selenium via brazil nuts (3/day)...My goiter has gone down in size (you can't even tell I have one) & my daily headaches are gone, I now longer feel lethargic, or wake up with a swollen face, eyes & eyelids...And I only started this about 2 weeks ago!
Even though I was pretty bad one or two days since starting gluten & soy free I have lost 5lbs!
Next I am going to check into transdermal iodine therapy.
I was born in Florida, conceived in the North Carolina area. I am the only one that I know of that has been born with one. We were discussing goiters in my college biology class, and my instructor had never heard of it either. My mothers has stated in the past that some paperwork had come up missing in my medical records. I'm trying to get all my records now.
Wow really..i have never heard of that, ive heard and know ppl born without a thyroid...
Where are you located? Midwest?
