Can thyroid nodules just dissapear

fcg
Hi, I was wondering if its possible for the nodules to just decrease in size, or dissapear all together on there own. I know I have had ovarian cysts, and they come and go, but I have no information about this. I guess I am just having some wishful thinking. I was just diagnosed with several thyroid nodules on both sides, one nodule is 1.9cm, so I am nervous. I am having a biopsy next week. I feel like there is a small ball caught in my throat.  I also was diagnosed with bi lat vocal nodules. I was told that those were benign by appearance. Thanks for any info. fg

Thank you for the information. I was diagnosed in June as having vocal cord nodules that are also called singer nodules. They are on both sides of the vocal cords and appear small, and benign. I was told from the ENT, that this is why I have the hoarse voice. Since it was not improving I requested a sonogram of my thyroid.I had it done last week. (12 years earlier when I was pregnant I had Hashimiotos disease after I delivered both of my boys) I had some symptoms for a few months and was monitored closely, and my thyroid went back tok normal. I never went on any meds. So, I thought well maybe there is more to this hoarsness then vocal cord nodules. SO, Now, I just don't know, is the hoarsness from the vocal cord nodules, or the thyroid nodules. Its so upseting that no one really has a definitive answer. My biopsy is on Thursday. I use to work in a CT office, so I have seen so much, and I am getting myself crazy. I want to thank you for answering me. Your very nice. Thanks, fg

Blood work can *often* come back normal with nodules.  The only time that nodules affect the blood work is if they are producing irregular amount of hormones (like a "hot" nodule that is producing way too much hormone) or if an autoimmune condition is associated with the nodule.

Don't stress - we are here to help you.

If you can post a copy of the ultrasound report here we can help you interpret it.   Your nodule is large and, since it's causing physical symptoms (voice, feeling of swallowing a golf ball, etc.) they may recommend surgery regardless of the results of the FNA (fine needle biopsy/aspiration).

Please keep us posted and ask away.

Hi, Last week I had a sono and was told I have multi nodules on the L&R side of my thyroid. I just got back my thyroid profile blood tests and everything was normal. I am sched. for a biopsy since one of the thyroids measured 1.9 cm. I just do not understand how my bloods came back normal. I have been feeling like I swallowed a golf ball. My voice is horse. I can not sleep. I keep waking up. I am so stressed

Ovarian cysts can come and go with the menstrual cycle and, when in conrol (unlike mine were) resolve upon ovulation.

Thyroid nodules - if cystic - can resolve (rarely) but the solid and complex ones don't.  Sorry.
