I am a post menapausal woman. Routine exam by family dr. revealed "thickness" in the thyroid. Ultrasound results stated there was a 2.6x1.5x3.4 cm complex nodule a 11x7x9 mm mid pole solid nodule and 3 small 2 mm midpole nodules. Impression was thyroid with multiple bilateral nodules with a 3.4 cm nodule arising from the isthmus. No further studies were indicated. Dr. still waiting for results of my bloodwork to make a final determination. I am beside myself with worry. Just lost my mother to cancer. Can you help me?
Complex means there is some solid material present there as well as the fluid.
Cystic nodules are usually good...they are fluid filled and can be drained. Not sure about what complex means.
many nodules on the thyroid are found by accident with routine scans. Why was your scan done in the first place - do you have a thyroid problem?
Beign nodule are very common and can be found with these scans. I am not confortable knowing anything is growing in me - no matter what - but in your report it sounds a cystic nodule is present. I am sure there is more to this report - like size and other important information - Can you reply back with the details of this report?
