how long for thyroid meds to work?

I have an enlarged thyroid with heterogeneous (sp?) texture and my doc is leaning towards me having hashimotos.  He did ultrasound it himself and discovered some suspicious tissue and nodule. I went to this doc for a second opinion because the first doc I saw had an ultrasound done on my thyroid in December but no one seemed to care what the results were - (I left that doctor).   My new doc did the needle biopsy on last friday.  My thyroid blood work was normal but my CRP was high.

I guess my questions are...is it possible for your thyroid to completely change over the course of 2.5 months?  I'm wondering if the people who did my first ultrasound were completely incompetent or my thyroid just decide to go south really fast.

Then my next question would be...if you are put on some type of thyroid medication - how long till you see the effects of that?  I've been miserable for months...and I'm being impatient!  :)

Yes, your thyroid can go south in 2.5 months. It sounds like you are going hypo.

It sounds like you need blood work on your thyroid again. If it has been 6-8 weeks since your last blood work request it to be checked again.

Hope you get it figured it out.

I've been totally sluggish and lethargic, sudden weight gain, bloating and nausea, and just feeling crappy all the time for about 8 months.  I've lost all motivation for everything because I'm sooo tired all the time, it's been awful.  Before all this I was very active and athletic.  It's like my whole world has been turned upside down.

I'm just waiting to hear from the doc...which should be sometime this week...

Yes there are some incompetent people who read the tests...Unfortunately i can attest to it all too well. Have had to have 3 surgeries due to the misdiagnosis, and mis readings..

If you take thyroid medication it usually takes about 6 weeks to notice a difference, but not everyone is the same.

What symptoms are you having?
