I switched from Levoxyl to Tirosint on October 1st. I asked to switch because of the fillers in Levoxyl.
Sadly, I am constipated and bloated with many other hypo symptoms, but I'm still happy to have switched to Tirosint I don't need or want the fillers.
The downside is that my insurance isn't covering it the way it did Levoxyl.
I started Tirosint this past month, late September, early October, and I feel stupendous. I had been on Synthroid for the past year, and had been experiencing a couple ofi ssues that were troublesome. My stomach was bloated to the point that I looked 4 months pregnant, I was unable to go to the bathroom for days upon days (after having been regular and going twice a day prior to that), and I didn't feel quite RIGHT. I eat healthy, I run five miles every other day, and I am active at work. My doctor listened and prescribed Tirosint, and I'm about to write her a thank you card. Seriously.
I'm off to bed in a flash, but wanted to comment - I've been on Tirosint since August of 2010; I'm doing better on it than I did on either Synthroid or Levo...
As goolarra said - it's a gelcap; only ingredients are the T4 med, glycerin and distilled water. Pretty much hypoallergenic and since it's a gelcap, also dissolved and absorbed better (at least for me)
We have seen some people who needed to start a lower dose than they were on with levo (i.e if you take 100 mcg levo, you might want to start at 88 mcg Tirosint; test in 6 weeks and go from there)
I'm not on Tirosint, but I know people who are. The medication is exactly the same as the medication in Synthroid. The only difference is in the fillers...Tirosint doesn't have any. It's a gelcap and hypoallergenic and should be more easily absorbed than pills. If you didn't do well with Synthroid, it might well be worth a try.
